Yes, that one. Oh, that approach road to lake is blocked is it. But you were able to walk through till the lake?

How is it blocked, they have tied some ropes? Is that kind of a permanent barricade or done by some local temporarily. Earlier also, there used to be one guy who opens up the rope and expects some money to be given to him. I guess it is not that.

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Went to Shivanasamudra and Talakadu this weekend with family but unfortunately both the places were under weekend lockdown (Chamarajanagar & Mysore districts). Still it was great to see the countryside, lush green fields and roads with trees on both sides.

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Visited Mavanuru Malleshwara Temple (W79Q+73Q)

Took about 3 hr 30 minutes from Whitefield area. Road quality was good throughout other than one rough patch that passes through a small village. Cars can reach the top of the temple.

Route taken via Outer Ring Road - Nelmangala - Kunigal - Kurubarahalli

Take a right from Kurubarahalli (12.881360244675461, 76.32183370216246) to reach Mavanuru Malleshwara Temple or popularly known as windmills temple.

It's a nice scenic drive. Sharing some pictures from the trip.

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

This weekend, joined a friend on his invite to drive to Sabbanahalli lake view point.

Google maps location: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sa...49!4d77.652892

Plan was hatched very late while lunch was prepared at my home. So, asked him to leave and that I would meet him at a restaurant as he was planning to have lunch outside. The location was Swagath multi-cuisine restaurant on the NH 44. It was a 64 km drive from Whitefield area and I took a different route than his. It was a mistake to trust google maps, the Budigere junction -Devanahalli route was jam packed with trucks and vehicles. And it was pouring! The rain was merciless, almost zero visibility at few places and the roads were under repair in many places.

It tool 1.5 hours to reach the destination, and due to rain my friend was also late. He had arrived just 10 minutes back. The restaurant is easy to find, good amount of parking place. There are many dining set ups like one can sit outside, or self-service area or in a family dining area. We had a quick lunch, starters were awesome, main course was good, but the tea was horrible (pure sugar syrup).

We left for the lake, left the NH and took village route and SH 94. These routes are scenic and pure driving pleasure, as they twist and change elevation with nice tarmac (most parts). There were some beautiful side scenes of flowers, agriculture and shepherds managing sheep. We stopped for the first view point, which was a bonus for me as I didn't know we were going to visit 2 lakes. There is again some decent parking place here (but need to position cars away from the road).

We spent some 15 minutes here and left for the second lake, it was another 15 minute drive and the drive between these two lakes is simply fantastic. We enjoyed it so much that we didn't stop to get a pic. This lake (Sabbanahalli) was also very close to the SH, but surrounded by mountains and greenery. No crowd here except for 2 bikers when we reached. But soon after there were couple of more cars one including a Range Rover and another Amaze followed us and they were properly doing a picnic. This place is also good for bird watchers, we saw at least 4-5 different birds in short time.

We spent some time there, let our kids play in water did some photography apart from breathing nature. It was already late and we were worried about the rains and started heading back. Just a stop at shell to have coffee on NH 44 just opposite to the restaurant that we stopped earlier and we drove back. This time I took the NH following my friend. It was long but good pace before we got caught in a jam. We reached late around 9: 00 pm. It was a good drive and destination to visit with family.

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Should I ride or drive this weekend?

Friends are riding to a mystery dam, but my bike was neglected it's due care during this pandemic and I have not much confidence on my trusted steed for now. So decided to drive my Nexon and I knew keeping up with the bikes is impossible when both of them are warp speed riders.

Location: DM me if you are interested. This place is somewhat less crowded and deep inside though connectivity is good. So want to keep it that way.

I started early at 5: 45 AM, and I was to meet them at Sarjapur road, which is near to them but not for me. I had to go through the Varthur - Gunjur road which is a torture track now as rains damaged it even more when it was already a neglected section for repairs. Good thing is it exposed a couple of squeaks in my car, which I plan to fix in upcoming service. Refueled at Shell, got hot Chai in friend's thermos, one friend wore rain coat as precautionary measure, as it was drizzling. All set to go, but we waited for the shell guy to fill air (for some time). The two bikers were busy pairing their BTs on Senna intercom. Finally, left for the dam. As expected, we were able to stick together only for few minutes, and I wasn't able to keep up due to road conditions, traffic and being in a car.

I trusted google maps, which was a*beep-beep-beep* this time, it re-routed me like hell and I had to circle a few times in village routes. Yes, we took interior roads for scenic views and it was scenic except the fact that google maps made my drive a irritating one and also the roads were too narrow sometimes with villagers blocking roads for their activities. We had to cross forested area too, it was an amazing drive as the road was wide, dense trees with lush green cover all over (thanks to recent rains) and only few places were not constructed. Few pictures from the first stop,

and the roads were narrow at some places like I said,

Look at that, beautiful to drive through that.

My friends reached some 20 minutes prior to me, got a call saying - We started having cup noodles. I had no bargaining chip here as I was only having the tea flask and thought it was hot water for the cup noodles. I tried to not stop anywhere else for photos and reached the dam. I had to park outside, near the road but the bikes were taken closer. I hustled myself for the breakfast, but boy oh boy! the view as soon as I started going in was magnificent. Birds chirping, the tree cover & canopy was clearly visible as the bund was high, with clouds, foggy condition and drizzle. The water body itself, reminded me of some hill station lake minus tourists, construction and it was clean and pure.

We spent some time there, clicked couple of pictures, had breakfast and Chai. Few other people were also there but no big crowd.

Another friend had a business meet and had to leave, so we packed up and rode back. Again I was betrayed by google maps, and I had to circle few villages, then in the city it put me through 12-15 re-routing requests. I reached home by noon, after lunch time. But, all in all a fantastic drive and destination. Ideal place to sit and relax with good meaningful instrumental music.

We had been to the same place a few weeks back and I agree that it's a nice quaint little place for a short getaway.

Another tip - this place is superb during evenings when the sun sets.

Thanks. Exactly a year later, yesterday we went to Gudibanda lake and Sabbanahalli lake. It was a nice getaway from city and daily chores.

Road from Gudibanda to Sabbanahalli lake is awesome. Drivers delight.
Lots of cattle on the rural roads around sunset time. Need to be careful.

Speed limits after Devanahalli toll plaza on the NH was between 30-50 kmph!! I don't know who comes up with these limits and the logic behind it.

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Went on a rather pleasant drive to Karki Kere, just 40 kms from Whitefield on Kolar route.

Location : https://www.google.com/maps/place/Ka...3!4d78.0164883

Very close to highway, 100 meters of narrow path on bund like structure, but anyone can drive on it. The place is good for sight seeing, walking around the fields and also a level 0 rock climbing. Kids will enjoy. A lot of locals were present, but not unsafe if there are people around. There is a CCD just opposite to the spot, so no worries for food and restroom.

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Inspired by thevlog by kripal amanna, did a 120 Kms trip to taste the famed Bannur Mutton @Bannur Military Hotel on last Sunday.

We were two families, started around 10.15 from JP Nagar and reached Bannur by 12.45 pm, there was very less traffic on Kanakpura road. Hotel is located on the Bannur main road and is mapped on Google, there is a dedicated parking space available next to the hotel. There was good variety of mutton and chicken dishes, all cooked in home made masalas. There is no over use of masalas and other spices, taste of the famed Bannur mutton is excellent. Place is not luxurious, but clean and family friendly, staff is very friendly and efficient, food price is cheap compared to Bangalore.

If you are non vegetarian foodie who is willing to explore varieties, I would suggest to give it a try.

Some snaps, apologies to the vegie friends

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Does anyone know if Nandi Hill is open this Friday on 10th September?

There was a land slide two weeks ago blocking access, and then there is a weekend ban which I am not sure if is still in effect and will it apply to Friday as well.

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Did a trip to Sabbanahalli. Left HSR at 11.55am, took a food packing time at McDonald's on airport road and reached around 3pm.

Started around 3.30pm and reached HSR by 6pm.

Roads are great but speed limits of 50km in parts.

Lake was crowded. Parked on side of road and walked to the lake.

Water is OK for wading but avoid swimming / pets swimming. My pet had fallen ill after a swim in Gunjur lake as water has pollutants.

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

I am aware that this might not be the right thread but was not sure where to put my query. So posting here.

I am planning for a short stay resort (around 5 hours max) to take my kids out. I am looking for a resort which has some play area for them to play and then have lunch and return. Would prefer a short drive so looking for places within a small radius around Bangalore. Any suggestions?

I think https://linger.in/ has options for day trips - their Farmstays are not far from BLR

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

To all 'cool drive gurus'! - Could you guys please suggest some nice sight seeing places along Old Madras Road (approx 200 kms drive one way)? Asking since i stay in Bangalore East and prefer not to criss cross city to go to some of the more popular getaways
