Pune Mahabaleshwar route

Hi,

Need some inputs from experienced junta/people who have recently visited this route on doing this route. With rains making a joke of PUne roads, how pot-holed would the roads to Mahabaleshwar be? Is it recommended to go in your own veh, or should one hire a sumo or something? Any extra precautions to be taken while driving to mitigate risks associated with landslides etc.

Thanks,
Simran

Pune ROADS? There is an oxymoron here. Where did you find Pune roads? I stay in Pune and am not able to find one during these rains. Alright, I exagerrated it a bit.

That's not what I like to hear when I'm planning to drive there soon. Damn these governments...I mean, let them take the money they want, atleast provide us with the basic infrastructure in return!

well, we did that trip in my Zen. the Roads were good, except in places where they had put diversions, and hte Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar roads were good too. There was an occasional bad stretch, but not as bad as Pune roads. Overall a nice experience. Got to try Reliance Pump outside Pune.

Zen is ready for its 2nd service now, and lots of noises are coming in. Hopefully they'll be put right. Otherwise the car did well. Adequate power for 4 ppl and luggage, and occasional 120 on the highway. Rear speakers were removed for the trip. and the overall mileage we got was 16.67.

Just got back from mahabhaleshwar via pune. The ghat sections are decent but the 35km stretch between pune and the first big ghat is really bad so is the road at new bombay.

Hi,

I am traveling to Mahabaleshwar tomorrow from Pune. What is the route to be taken? If someone can tell me where to get off (taking right) from the NH4 highway? that would be great.

Thanked: Once

Take the bangalore highway.. Generally i catch that route from Chandi Chowk..
Keep going straight, First u will cross, nasrapur (near to balaji temple , and baneshwar).. Keep going straight. there u would come across second toll naka.. I dont know whatz the turn call.. but u have to take a right.. Do ask @ the toll..

Also, once you take a right, u will come across a ghat.. Its a one sided ghat.

Then u will reach Panchani.. and then further ahead, Mahabaleshwar.

Thanks Yatin. Also, I'm taking my TN registered car, any issues that I may face?

Also, in the image attached do I take a right turn at point 1 or point 2? towards Wai.

Check this thread for panchagani; Mahabaleshwar is next place after Panchgani on same road.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...i-via-wai.html

TN registered car: If you haven't faced any problem driving within pune city, then you should not face problem in panchgani/mahabaleshwar. Hope you are carrying your car papers.

Turn: Take right turn at point 2. You will reach it after khambataki ghat.

Yupp. I have the papers and all. The photocopy one's as the original's are currently at Chennai for NOC.

Also, can you take a look at the image above and let me know which is the right turn.
EDIT: Don't worry I understood the route from the Panchgani thread. Thanks!

you have to take right turn at point two in the image.

route is

pune-nh4-nasarapur-tollnaka-khandala-toll naka2-khambataki ghat-after crossing ghat, at @5km one underconstruction overbridge for on coming vehicles-turn right under this bridge[this junction is called surul]-wai-pasarani ghat-panchagani-mahabaleshwar.

you have to avoid katraj ghat as repairing is going on and ghat is closed.
