Chennai to Leh Roadtrip on new M800 - Need help

I'm planning to do a roadtrip from Chennai to Leh in my new M800 shortly. Please excuse if this sounds odd. But i somehow want to achieve this. Has any fellow BHPians done this route before from Chennai. Please help me with some advice on the following:

1. What will be the approximate distance to reach Leh from Chennai?
2. Route Map
3. Fuel points & Boarding info needed. Are fuel stations available throughout the journey?
4. Can a M800 withstand a -3 deg temperature in Leh?
5. Kit to carry during journey
6. Is it advisable to travel with family and other safety measures?
7. Is this the right time to travel there?

Advice on the queries from fellow BHPians would be much appreciated.

A M800 can do the Manali Leh highway, however the Srinagar route is easier.
That said, you cannot go before mid may, when the roads open.
Ideally for a car, Late August Early September is better because the snows have melted and roads are in better condition.
You can check out the "Gama to Lama" travelogue by "Yamraj". They took a Palio and Wagon R from Bangalore to Leh

Mad you are too much daring. very good and nobel thought though it doesn't sound odd because many have done the LEH trip.All the best. See "Gama to Lama" thread by yamaraj for all the details and things you wanted to know
