Coorg to Hampi via public transport

Hi,

I am planning to visit Coorg during the Christmas vacations and then carry on to Hampi from there for the new year's. Could someone here please inform me about the best way to make this journey?

Is it more feasible to take a bus/train to Bangalore and then take another bus/train to Hampi or is there any direct transport available?

How long is the journey (both direct and via Bangalore) and can I save time by taking overnighters?

Cheers,
-Ganesh

If it is public transport and the distance is more than 300kms then overnigh travel is the best as you can sleep and fisnih off the distance and the day time you can roam about.if you are not tarvelling on your own vehilce then don't worry about the dictance if it is public transport and if you are travelling overnight because by morning 5/6am you will reach the destination.

Not sure of Coorg to Bangalore. You may get one hop via Mysore.
Bangalore to Hospet, you get buses starting at night. They will take to you to Hospet early morning. Hampi is 25Km from there. I guess buses ply every hour.

From Coorg to Hampi... There are no direct buses.

The best option is coming to Bangalore or Mysore.

But there is one KSRTC Express bus leaving coorg in evening to Shimoga from there you need to take another bus to Hospet.

But not a very advisable option. This can be kept as a last option since getting tickets during holidays can be a issue.

There are no direct buses from Coorg to Hampi. The best way is to get to Mysore and from there to Hampi/Hospet. As Kadri suggested, you can take the Madikeri-Hubli bus and alight at Shimoga and continue to Hospet from there.

You can go to Mysore and from there take the 8 pm Mysore-Dharwad express and alight at Davanagere and catch a bus to Hospet. But the train reaches Davanagere in the middle of the night.

Another option is to take an overnight bus from Mysore to Hospet to Bangalore. There is one which leaves Mysore at 8 pm. But, book in advance as it is holiday season.

The last option is go to Bangalore & catch a bus/train. There are plenty of options from Bangalore. This is also the longest journey. About 6-7 hours to Bangalore and about the same time from there to Hospet.

Best way is to go to bangalore from madikeri

From Madikeri catch a bus to bangalore(6 hours)

From Bangalore catch a overnight bus to hospet. You get comfortable buses from KSRTC or Private travels which will help you reach by the early morning if you start at 8pm from bangalore.

Dont go to shimoga as you have not travelled that route before.

Thanks a lot everyone for the suggestions. I was trying to book in advance but VRL is the only transport operator who has their bookings open right now. KSRTC and Sharma travels will open their booking only on 10th or so. VRL is very expensive though... Rs1400 compared to Rs1000 on the others.
