Bangalore - 10 Days. 2 Boys. Open roads. Where's the fun?

No naughty thoughts please. I have nothing against the gay community, but I've been wanting to do a road trip with my brother for a while now.

We have about 10 days starting December 15th. Where do we go?

Parameters:
1. Starting point - Bangalore.
2. Budget - no constraint.
3. Want - to see something different, culturally.
4. Do not want this trip to be about partying. So straying off the beaten path is what we want to do.
5. Mode: Scorpio

I was thinking Rajasthan...its really out there, good road trip...should be possible in 10-15 days...any other ideas guys?

Seeing the desert now should be a good time and to experience the roads as well.

That was what I was thinking...but my brother's throwing a spanner in the works now...saying he is going to be bored sitting in the car whilst I drive

Rajasthan would be good. I have been thinking of doing a road trip there next year too.
But you are the sole driver on this trip? Might be taxing for you forget about your brother getting bored!

I would suggest Himachal. You will be able to see the hills, snow, bad roads, different culture and awesome scenic beauty.

If you are doing Rajasthan, then I would suggest doing the Jodhpur, Bikaner , Jaisalmer circuit. You and your brother can switch places to do a non-stop drive to Rajasthan

route suggestions- i like following the "8" principle when planning rides/drives thereby not touching the same road twice.

1. Beach Bums:
Bangalore - Belgaum - Ganpatipule-Malvan-Hedvi-Guhagar-Dapoli-Kelshi-Harihareshwar-Murud-Kashid-Pune-Belgaum-Goa(Palolem)-Karwar-Malpe-Bangalore.

an "8" with Belgaum as its center.

halts in Ganapatipule, Hedvi, Murud, Goa and Malpe.

2. Gods Own Country:
Bangalore-Kodai-Munnar-Kochi-Tvm-Kanyakumari-Madurai-Shencottah-THenmala-Punalur-Kochi-Thrissur-Nilambur-Gudalur-Mysore-Bangalore.

Halts in Kodai/Munnar, Kochi, Kanyakumari, thenmalai, Gudalur/Mudumalai foothills, Bangalore

If i had 10 days I would spent them trawling the forests in the Niligiri biosphere!

Since you have no constraints w.r.t. budget, and your brother would be bored while you drive (i assume, he can not drive), i take liberty to suggest that both of you fly to Thailand and visit Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya. that would be a completely different culture for you

there would be lots of fun for 2 boys ofcourse.
you can hire a local car to drive around.

Actually, the number one reason for me to visit Rajasthan is to:

1. Savour the food
2. Do a camel savannah trip
3. Camp in the desert under the stars
4. Buy furniture
5. Check out the local culture.

I dont think Rajasthan is a great place to *see*. So when I calculated the driving versus the flying thing, I figured flying is a better and much cheaper option. I would lose time driving as well. And you can pretty much get around from one place to another in Rajasthan.

I dont think it will be taxing if you drive easy without too many breaks. Its when you take breaks that you lose time, and then you push harder to meet time for the next stop. So you're concentrating more, whilst pushing harder.

Yeah, but there is nothing to *see* enroute. Rajasthan is more a destination and less a journey, me feels. What's your take?

Unfortunately, my brother cant drive. So this time he comes home, I am making it a point to teach him driving.

Am very keen on Himachal. Am reading Sen2009's trip as we speak and its fantastic.

I missed that circuit this year. 2009's been a bit painful.

This is a fantastic idea! I am making a note of this trip plan for sure. This time, its going to be two trips. A short bike trip to Chikmagalur (my brother's just getting aquainted with the Yezdi, and maybe another longer one to Dandeli.

That would probably happen late next year. I seriously want to get done with a lot of India first.

Red_liner. Rajasthan will be a good trip.
You also can plan some thing in Eastern part of India as you have 10 days time. Like Orissa/WB/Sikim/Bhutan....
