Need help for Bangalore - North Kerala - Bangalore round trip!

Hello!

I'm looking to do a round trip as follows:

Bangalore to Mangalore (via NH 48)

South from Mangalore on NH 17 to Kasarkode & Kannur

Loop back to Bangalore on state highway from Kannur via Virajpet, Hunsur & Srirangapatinam

Planned night stays at:

1. Sakhleshpur
2. Kappil OR Bekal (near Kasarkode)
3. Around Virajpet/ Arabithittu Wildlife Sanctuary

Please advise me on:

1. Current road conditions as per the above route
2. Accommodation options for night stays
3. Any other driving tips/ guidance

Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated as I'm doing this route for the first time.

Thank you in advance!

No, I planned a similar trip and booked these places, but could not do the trip and so no feedback from me on this place. But heard its a decent one.

For Sakhlespur, PM our member chandan. he owns a homestay. Btw, what car are you driving?

Any particular reason why you are going to Mangalore and then traveling south?
The Sakleshpur-Mangalore road stretch, where you cross the Shiradi ghat was pretty bad till recently, don't know how it is now.

I was told that Bangalore-mangalore stretch, the roads are very bad
again mangalore to kerala border, the roads are bad.

Saturday,12th dec, I drove to Bangalore and 13th returned back to
Payyannur.
I took following route to Bangalore:

Kannur - Kuthurparambu - Nedumpoyil - Mananthavady - Kattikulam - Tholpatty - kutta - mysore - Bangalore.
The roads were okay except the mysore border road -just after kerala border to mysore road, the forest section- the road work is in progress hence one need to take diversion through the villages nearby and those roads were really bad (waste of time also).

I took another route on return.

Bangalore - mysore (before mysore, I took the left turn -outer ring road goes to ooty/calicut) - nanjagod (the road upto nanjagod is not good) - Gundalpet -sultanbathery - mananthavady (very good roads).
After mananthavady, I took the Palchuram ghat area-kottiyur-peravur-irritty-sreekantapuram-Thaliparamba-payyannur.(this route have got too much curves and not easy to find signages for a new person)

Since you want to proceed to Kannur, you may opt for mananthavady-
negumpoyil-kuthuparambu-Kannur ?

Mangalore-Kasargod has some bad stretches - near the border - but not too bad to drive.
