I am planning to travel next week to KALADI(Kerala). My last 2 trips (2008) I took following route bangalore>>Thoppur>>Mettur>>bhavani>>Coimbatore.

Recently I heard from someone that following route is better as most of the construction activities are completed

Bangalore>>Thoppur>>Salem Bypass>>Bhavani>>Coimbatore

Can anyone suggest me the road condition and drive-ability of these roads.

Did this route via Salem last week but I feel its still better to avoid Salem till constructions are completed.

Present road conditions are good and widely discussed on thread "Current condition of road to Kerala"

I think you should stick to bangalore>>Thoppur>>Mettur>>bhavani>>Coimbatore
as construction work is not complete in the salem - Bhavani stretch. Also, Mettur route is around 20 KM shorter.

Despite the road widening activity, road condition via Salem is good and you can go fast on this route, especially if you are travelling at night.

How is the road condition in Mettur, last time(2008) it was full of potholes any repair work is undertaken?

Mettur route is absolutely fine except for a few rough edges after Mecheri enroute to Bhavani, go ahead and take this route

Well Mettur - Bhavani is good and not so good in patches. But you should still be able to do this in less than an hour. Once you rejoin the 4 lane after Bhavani its great upto 10 kms before Avinashi. After that the 4 lane just disappears and its irritating driving till the L&T bypass.

Salem - Bhavani sector is plagued by heavy lorry and bus traffic which makes the taking of diversions extremely irritating.
