\so we have the following questions

a) although we have planned the travel,we have a nagging doubt that it would be very cold.\what is suggestion here

a) we are planning to stay in srinagar for four days.\so what are the suggestions for any reasonable hotel(within \rs 1000 per month)

b) \what is the possiblity of skiing in gulmarg?

c) will the dal lake be frozen or can we take the boat rides in srinagar?

d) any contacts for local taxi drivers and the cost ?

plz help.we need this info urgently.

Sonmarg is closed for the winters.
Gulmarg(around 2 hours from Srinagar) is however the hotbed of winter sports.

Skiing is pretty big in Gulmarg, and its one of the most popular skiing destinations in India

Srinagar remains in the zero+ range normally in Dec. Rarely snows there.
The JKTDC's Heemal on Dal Lake Boulevard is a good place to stay. May be over 1000 though. You can bargain heavily with houseboat guys, you may get cheaper houseboat rooms.
You will be able to boat in Dal Lake.

Hi tsk1979,

We were planning to stay in Srinagar for all the four days. However I want to see if its possible(within by budget ) to stay in gulmarg for a day or two.Is is worth staying in gulmarg.

I also know that "kashmir Snow festival" is going to be held in Gulmargh from Dec 24-Dec29.So will it be crowded ?

Thanks
hdi

Hi hvkumar,

Thanks for the reply.

I read in some of the forums that ,it will be very cold in houseboats. That was why we decided that we will stay in the land and just go to the boat rides.

Anyways I will contact JKTDC Heemal to see what are the rates.

Thanks
-hdi

I booked online via www.jktdc.com pretty reasonable.
