Bali has plenty of accomodation options - a little bit of search in internet (www.tripadvisor.com recommended) can help you narrow down to the ideal choice. Many of the hotels can be booked through agents (online/offline) in India - some can be booked directly through the hotel website. Since your PAX count is high (5 families), you may also consider home-stays / service apartments.

The websites with the best hotel rates for SE Asia are Online Hotel Discount Reservations Worldwide - Book Your Hotel With Agoda (quotes rates in INR too) and Wotif.com: Indonesia Hotels, Accommodation, Motels, Serviced Apartments, B&B - Online hotel bookings with instant confirmation. You could also check Hotels.com - Hotel rooms with reviews. Discounts and Deals on 85,000 hotels worldwide for some good deals, though they are usually a little more expensive than the other two.

You can also try hotelclub.com. This site has some pretty good rates.

Many thanks to you all for the info.

@mitchontheroad : I'd like some info on the best area to stay. I'm looking for some peace and quiet place. Which one would you advise - Legian beach or Nusa Dua? Also, my budget is around $ USD 40-50 so if you have any info on that kind of a budget please let me know.

thanks again.

Nothing specific about Bali. The standard travel cards should work. And you will then need to withdraw money in there. Was there anything specific you wanted to check?

You can carry USD card but please remember you will pay transaction charge for the conversion into IDR and not everyone liked cards (its a cash economy like India).

Carry USD in cash. INR is not accepted. Sanur and Kuta had enough exchangers who would exchange at a good price. Hotels were willing to accept at a decent price as well (far better than in India).

Hardly a big deal to carry 2-3k USD frankly. We withdrew only once using my debit card from the ATM and even that was decent (the usual 3.5% markup and 1.5$ ATM fee etc) but had limitations on the transaction size as a debit card- your forex card may have more limits. Do check.

Hotels (Logding and restaurants) accept credit cards. You will get mark up charges on your credit card.

You can carry USD and change it to local currency. You might be spending conversion costs here INR to USD and then USD to local currency. There are few forex exchange places who are not taking commissions. My Taxi guy took me there. Do not remember the name of that chain.

The concern on carrying currency (USD) was with safety aspect. Its a group of 4 including my brother & mother. In any case, decided to carry cash, will have credit & debit card as backup.
Forex is taken care through bookmyforex.com

Thanks.

Hey Nitin,

So here is some advise which I hope helps you as this is how I plan all my international holidays.

So the country is confirmed which is Bali, Indonesia. No you need to decide the following:

Location
- Where in Bali would you like to stay?
The top locations (not necessarily in this order) are:
1. Ubud - This is the most preferred for those who want to shop the local stuff of Bali like coffee, artefacts, etc. Known for the famous Monkey Forest Park and Ubud Market.
2. Seminyak - This is the premium location of Bali. It is quiet and upmarket and has some really good hotels. It is also easy to access most sight seeing locations from here. Expect this place to be more expensive than the rest.
3. Kuta - Mainly known for its beach and night life. This place is buzzing and is very economical to stay.
4. Jimbaran - Almost in a corner of Bali but again a very peaceful place to stay. Known for the famous 'Rock Bar' at Ayana Resort.
5. Nusa Dua - Also an upmarket place known for its temples and surfing.

You can more information on the above places on https://www.tripadvisor.in/Tourism-g...Vacations.html and choose your hotel accordingly.

Must Visit Places
- Tanah Lot Temple near Kuta
- Uluwatu Temple at Uluwatu
- Ubud Monkey Forest at Ubud
- Ubud Market at Ubud
- Kintamani & Mount Batur Volcanos
- Kuta Beach at Kuta

Must Visit Restaurants & Bars
- Merah Putih for authentic Indonesian cuisine in Seminyak
- Saigon Street in Seminyak
- Sarong in Seminyak
- Ku De Ta in Seminyak
- Potato Head Beach Club in Seminyak
- The Rock Bar at Jimbaran

I personally stayed at The Kunja Villas in Seminyak during my stay at Bali and found it to be an absolutely fantastic experience.

Hope this helps.

My recommendation would be to stay in Ubud for the initial half of your stay, relax and enjoy the town, do whitewater rafting etc. Then move to Seminyak and party hard. Also near to Airport.

Nua Dualists is too rarified IMHO
