the villages. From Raichur the last stretch of about 7-8kms is bad before you
reach the newly constructed bridge.

If want to travel via Kurnool
The road from Kurnool - Kodumur has a lot of potholes as road widening is going on.Kodumur-Mantralayam is decent road.

Thanks Gajadonga.

Kurnool - kodumur was the worst stretch. The roads cannot be any worse. I was thinking if we test the expensive German cars, will they make it in one piece?

HYD - Mantralayam via Kurnool - Kodumur - Yemmiganur and Mantralayam was 314 Kms. It took 4.5 hours one way.

3 toll booths will cost you sum of 169 Rs. (51/53/65).

One good thing was that we did not see a single accident both ways.

Thanks, @gajadonga!

I've been searching for the Mbnr-Raichur-Mantralayam road and bridge conditions since two days. We're planning to visit Mantralayam this weekend; en route, we plan to see Pillalamarri as well.

Re: Hyderabad - Mantralayam Route Query

We'd been to Mantralayam and Alampur two days back. Here's the update on the road conditions:

Hyd-Mantralayam (7.30am to 12.15pm with 1/2 hr breakfast break @ mbar):
Hyd-Jadcherla: 4-lane, paid highway
Jadcheral-Mbnr: decent roads with lots of speedbreakers as one approaches the city, and traffic is high
Mbnr-Raichur: decent roads, can maintain 80-100kph; get prepared to slowdown at villages for speedbreakers.
Raichur-Mantralayam: mix of 2-lane and 1-lane roads

Mantralayam-Alampur (2pm to 4.30pm):
Mantralayam-Yemmiganur-Kodumur: decent 2-lane roads
Kodumur-Kurnool: lots of potholes; road-widening in progress; have to be very careful
Kurnool-Alampur X road: 4-lane roads
Alampur X road - Alampur: 2-lane road with a patch of 1-lane roads

Note: Though Raichur road is shorter in terms of distance, once we enter Karnataka, road conditions deteriorate. There are way too many speedbreakers between Shaktinagar and Raichur; traffic is on the higher side; and road conditions are very bad in the Raichur city. Avoid it if you can!

The distance is around 250kms from Hyderabad.
It usually takes about 5.30hrs from Hyderabad. This time newly laid road and
minimal traffic so was able to cover in 4.30mins.
Raichur-Mantralayam is also newly laid dual carriage way.
Travelled in the noon yesterday so it was a breeze from Mahabubnagar- Mantralayam.Very minimal traffic.
That is why probably I could travel quickly this time.
While coming back the traffic was the same minimal till Mahabubnagar
To avoid Mahabubnagar town traffic and I took the
Mahabubnagar-Buthpur-Jadcherla but even this route had very heavy traffic
yesterday.Return took me 5hrs to Hyderabad.

Last time I traveled till Yeminganur the roads were good.
The problem was between Kodumur-Kurnool so avoided this stretch this time.

Re: Hyderabad - Mantralayam Route Query

I am planning to take the Kurnool-Kodmur-Yemmiganur-Mantralayam route this weekend. As per all the previous posts, Kurnool-Kodmur is bad! Any recent update on the road condition/suggestions of alternative routes would be of great help. Also, what would be the additional kms that I will be required to cover if take Gooty-Kurnool-Kodmur-Mantralayam route instead of Gooty-Adoni-Yemmiganur-Mantralayam route. The reason I am trying to avoid this short route is because of the alert by a Bhpian in the Bangalore-Mantralaya thread in page 7!

Thanks and Best Regards,
Raj

Re: Hyderabad - Mantralayam Route Query

Quick update from my end:

I went to Mantralayam from Hyderabad on 25th and returned on 26th.

For the onward journey, I took the following route:
Hyderabad to Bhuthpur (via NH7), Bhuthpur to Mahbubnagar (SH20) and
from Mahbubnagar via Devarkadra, Makthal, Raichur (SH18),
from Raichur to Mantralyam (SH167).

For the return, I took the following route:
Mantralayam to Yemmiganur to Kodumur to Kurnool
From Kurnool to Hyderabad (NH7).

I will recommend the return route for the following reasons:
1) Bhuthpur to Mahbubnagar (SH20, some road construction is going on and roads are
broken throughout. Single lane and with heavy trucks travelling along and aside it
is very difficult to travel.
2) Raichur to Mantralayam roads are again broken and it is difficult to maintain decent
speeds. There are sections in this road where you will have to literally crawl.
3) There are few carnivorous speedbreakers between Mahbubnagar to Mantralyam that
are very difficult to spot and if you miss it, the vehicle will take the hit very badly.

The only section on the return route I found to be bad was the approximate
30 kms section between Kodumur to Kurnool. This section is again not too
bad and one can easily maintain speeds of about 40 - 60 kmph. The rest of
the sections are actually very good.

The onward route was approximately 250 kms and the return was close to 300 kms.
However everyone in my vehicle found and agreed that the return journey was more
pleasant.

Re: Hyderabad - Mantralayam Route Query

Update on the route.

Hyderabad- Jadcherla-Mahabubnagar.
Good roads.

Mahbubnagar-Marikal.
Good roads throughout.

Marikal-Makthal
Good throughout except for some patch of road need to slow down.

Makthal-Raichur.
Bridge under construction a small deviation for about half a kilometre.
Border road between Telangana and Karnataka patchy areas of bad road manageble.
From Krishna river bridge to Raichur good roads but lots of speed breakers..

Raichur-Mantralaya.
From Navodaya college to Tuntapur single roads shoulders are bad.
From Tuntapur the roads improve lots of speed breakers after Gujhalli.

On the whole still the best and shortest route to Mantralayam.

Re: Hyderabad - Mantralayam Route Query

Traveled to Mantralayam last weekend.

Mantralayam to Raichur

Roads have been widened with good shoulders and the roads have been widened in the villages also. Toll might be coming saw a toll both but yet to function. Good roads traffic has also picked up and saw lot of private buses taking this route.

Raichur to Devasugur

No potholes lots of speed breakers road condition is okay.
The road over the Krishna river is badly broken down have to crawl on the bridge.

Devasugur to Jadcherla.

Pleasantly surprised at the excellent road conditions 2 blind spots accident prone has beeen well widened and a new bridge also has been built which was a culvet previously.
Railway road over bridge is under construction at Devarkadra.
Saw a toll booth but yet to start operation near to Marikal town
As was driving in the night came through Mahabubnagar town roads have been four laned inside the town upto Jadcherla it is four lane.

Jadcherla Hyderabad is four lane road .

Running time is significantly reduced to between 4 to 5 hrs to Mantralayam from Hyderabad
