Join the club! I never liked Malpe as well. I used to love Kaup. I remember posing on one of the rocks for a friend during sunset. The tide went up and then I had to swim back to shore. 30 mins earlier, I'd waded through water to clamber on the same rock!
With my dress dripping wet, my friend put a condition that I shouldn't soil his car seat. Hence I came back wearing nothing but a towel. All my friends decided to stop by dollops for ice-cream and I had the audacity to join them in the same costume. :uncontrol. I tried joining them for a movie in VC, but was denied entry as the girls started hooting. Was the butt of all jokes for a few weeks!
But Kaappu or kaup (as in english) still ranks as my favourite beach in that section!

Well well, somethings of M.I.T never change. I remember how we were paraded in the 1st year on the occasion of Holi frist to LH and then to KMC Greens, LOL .
MIT was the place where I lost my innocence and inhibitions and I think I turned pretty well :)

What year did you pass out?
I would be stopping by MIT/Manipal around the weekend of 23rd May. Havent visited "Mighty Mighty MIT" for approx 10 years now. Heard that the first four blocks are now LH and 8th block is a complete AC block, etc. Need a first hand visit to the place to see all the new things :).
Let us know how your travel pans out.

1997 - 2001 I.P
The first 4 blocks had got converted to LH during our final year that 2000-2001. 3 & 4th black was for TAPMI while 1st & 2nd was for MIT students. Both me and my wife have at different points stayed in the 4th block :P. Now this 8th block being made A/C is news to me . Will go and check.
Btw which year were you in?

1990 - 1994 E&C.....
The last I heard was that some one stole an LCD tv from the 10th block, due to which they put a blanket fine on all students of MIT.

@ Samurai: Would be nice to catch up with you and your Jeep (Not the Totalled One :P ) on Saturday. |
Looks like I will be back in Manipal by Saturday evening. Give me a call tomorrow evening if you get this message, I'l PM you my number. But the Jeep is still in Coorg undergoing rebuild.
Reached Manipal after a relaxed / gruelling / fun and frustrating 17 Hrs of drive at 9PM. For all MITians, a visit would be a revelation. I was offered a stay in the hostel ( 17th Block. Yes there are 17 Hostel Blocks!!!) but since women are not allowed in men's hostel, couldn't stay.
Manipal has changed immensely, but few things don't change like Dinner @ Dollops, after dinner beverage /desert @ Cosmo Cafe followed by stocking up of midnight snack : Keshto from Press Carts & Deva's Special from Devas :)
Ok guys off to sleep, been up since 2 am yesterday
P.S: @ Samurai : Got your message and responded too
The cosmetic changes created a feeling more of revulsion in me. I loved the charming old days of press carts, deva's, kamaths. Enjoy your days there. And post photos!
check your pm.
The end point must have been a shocker...:D

Why--isn't it there any longer? I remember walking up to it from my hotel during my official trip there in Nov, 2003.

This is end point now... do you recognize it? :) This was shot in April 2008.
Meanwhile, MileCruncher was very disappointed with the current Manipal and left by afternoon today towards Gokarna. So we couldn't meet.
Where exactly is the End Point? Visited Manipal several times, but never went to it!
HVK, just google for
End point Manipal, you'll run into hundreds of links raving about it.
This is a view from End Point. (June 2007)
And this used to be the way... (June 2007)
This is probably the last photograph ever taken of this road in this shape. After that government took a portion of the land and is building the District administrative building. What was purely the dominion of students, will now became the hub of government business.
MileCruncher was hoping to see this at end point.
But saw a huge but well maintained park instead.
