Beijing, Shanghai, Hongkong and Macau

After completion of successful trip to kl and singapore,
our group is planning to visit world expo in Shanghai.

This time, the group will be bigger and we are expecting anything between 25 to 50 travelers.

The budget is limited to rs 50 k for this 10-14 days trip in July/August/Sept 2010.

The group has suggested me to put a plan accordingly.
This time, i will not be alone and will take external agency help.

The major cost i.e. airfare for Mumbai-Beijing, Shanghai-Hongkong-Macau will be limited to rs 15k.
Presently, the airline websites are showing lot of money required on these sectors but....
....i am 100% sure that we will get special promotional rates for our group with the help of influence.

Basic questions---

1] What to see in these four cities?
2] Where to stay and dine in these cities?
3] What should be the mode of transport between Beijing and Shanghai? It should be cost and time effective.
4] what should be mode of transport between Hongkong and Macau to and fro?
5] How much time we should spend on those locations? we have kept aside 4-5 days for world expo at Shanghai.
6] Suggest anything related to this itinerary which you feel necessary and helpful.

I have to put the plan within next 7 days.
We need to go to our influence with firm plan so that he will help us to the point.

Bhpians are the friends to whom i trust for first hand info.

Looking forward .

Great plan

Macau : More like a Goa, ex portugese colony, Las Vegas of East
Ferry from Hongkong.

Hongkong: Trading Capital of the world, Harbor & airport both are the worlds most efficient and most busy. Shopping, underground metro etc are worth seeing.

Shenzhen : Travel from Hongkong to Shenzen by Train is worth an experience, one needs to go through 2 immigrations, 2 customs, from HK airport to hongkong hotel, one can travel in just 1 hour. Visit to Dongguan province and experience the "true Shenzhen experience" Electronic gray market is a must see

Shanghai : Chinese version of Mumbai, Commercial capital of China
There is river, Bund area, TV tower, there is a revolving resturant on some 75th or 78th floor, wonderful experience, expensive.

Beijing: Chinese capital, government HQ, Great wall, town planning, circular inner roads, olymic stadium

I suggest that you add Guilin to the list, it has some of the most fabulous caves in the world. the Guilin perls and paintings are world famous. There is an half day river cruise which should not be missed.

Hospitality in China is very good, Chinese Hotel rooms are very cheap, only thing is they do not serve Indian vegetarian food.

In all big cities one can find several indian punjabi resturants

100 USD (or 4600 RS) = ~ 620 RMB
HK $ are some times accepted in Shenzhen, but RMB is not accpeted in HK shops.

Dragon air offers direct flights to Hongkong, tentaive plan is
There is also a direct flight from Delhi to Beijing, few times a week.
Air china and China Eastern airlines are the ones to be looked into for within china flights. Flight journey in China is cheap as most planes are very big and has large capacity.

you can also fly to Hongkong either from Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore
HK macau is by ferry

Shanghai

Take taxi's official ones - ensure you have your desitnation written down and a map. Try and get a known hotel in the downtown area. Taxi stand has people available to guide you.

PLaces to see

Maglev ride - worth it, if you stay on pudong side of river. Else try and fit in on your way out

First visit the Oriental Pearl Tower and visit the museum on the basement documenting Shanghai;s histroy
Take the cheesy under river rise to th Bund, walk on Nanjing Road - plenty of people will hustle you though
Jade buddha temple and Yuyann garden(puxi side)
Shanghai museum if you have time
Xingtianxi (something like that)- high class rendering of a shanghai

more here (Shanghai and Dalian)

Re: Beijing, Shanghai, Hongkong and Macau

1) Yes
2) Bus/ferry is a better option. Available from HK airport
3) Yes. Better to get the visa issued from india itself.

@bhp,
thanks for reply.

1] If bus is available from airport, then it will be best for us.
2] Yeah, we will get visa issued from India itself. My concern was, while applying for visa, we have to submit return air ticket which in our case will not be valid as we may go and come back from Hongkong by bus/train etc.

I will post more queries as arises.
