Suggestion and options please for Jerry can or any other alternative.

Hi Pramod, I will share the source detail, you can order minimum of two jerry cans of 20 Ltrs. The only issue is that they do not sell without proper billing and TIN number of the buyer is required. Could be anybody's TIN number for billing purpose. Shipping address can be yours. I used a friends company TIN

In anycase just hold on till I receive mine. I will confirm if the quality is worth for Rs 1100 per jerry can

Here is the supplier

RK, Thanks for the info and I await your feedback, but I know I would not be able to get this before my trip of 29th May this year, but would be a valuable adding to have. So if you find it better and suitable I would go ahead and order, just have to look for the TIN number then!

If you really need it I can help you procuring it. And by any chance if you are passing via Gurgaon or Delhi, I can leave it with somebody you can pickup on the way, as I myself will be on the move .

Will update once I get it

That would be great, I have to cross Delhi anyway , I most probably will stay at Hodal and then cross Delhi in the morning.

Let me know when you get the Jerry Can and if there is a feasibility to get that on way.

I use plastic jerrycans(slightly flexible ones). They leak from the cap, but I fixed that with baloons. Cost me 100rs for the 35 liters one. I put 20 liters in each and I am all set.
do we really need to spend 1000s on jerrycans, esp since in a car it will be inside the car and protected from stone impacts and the like?

I have never carried extra fuel till now, Jerry Can are safe bet is what come to mind, because they are made for carrying fuel, but your point is valid too we can use the "Juggad" too and get the task done, give opportunity I would prefer to have Jerry Can over other arrangement else I don't have option just to follow what you do, carry plastic can and make sure to seal them with some "Juggad".

We carried fuel in plastic cans, put a small plastic wrapper before tightening the cap, no smell.

Not sure, but then heard that plastic cans usually go out of shape in the high altitude and the risk of spill off is there and ofcourse the smell which follows.

How real is the necessity to carry jerry cans along?

You need spare fuel in some sections:
Leh-Nubra (there is a fuel pump in Desikit, but may not have stocks sometimes)-Wari la-Pangong-Karu.
Leh-Upshi-Tso Moriri-Pang-Sarchu-Keylong-Tandi

Kumar@ I thought there is a pump in Karu?

Plan to do both Nubra as well as Pangong and Tso Moriri, so guess Jerry cans is a must.

RKB@ might need your help if i'm not able to procure a TIN. But then like i said still 3 more months to get Leh'd..!

Kargil-Padum (Zanslkar V)-Kargil
Leh-Nubra V-Wari la-Pangon Tso-Karu
