In that case try a hotel near Dharampur. Lots of small hotels are there charging 500-600.
On the first day after you cross dharampur you can check out some hotels, and book them for your return trip.

Re: Trip to Kalpa-Chitkul-Sarahan in June 2010: help with itinerary

@tsk1979: I'll be booking the Harsh Villa at Narkanda and shall book a budget hotel at Dharampur also. Any suggestions for budget hotels in Chitkul?

There is panchauli resorts but its expensive(1000+)
Then there are small hotels in sangla which are much cheaper.

Just before entering Chitkul village, on your right there is a hotel called `Alpine Resort' - this is cheap, and the location is good too (check this post). The rooms that we saw were not in very good condition, but that may have changed.
There will be some options available in the village also. You can explore those once you reach there.

Re: Trip to Kalpa-Chitkul-Sarahan in June 2010: help with itinerary

I read on indiamike that there are plenty of options in Chitkul and I don't have to worry about pre-booking at least here, would it be right?

I'd still be booking Harsh Villas in a day or two at Narkanda.

Re: Trip to Kalpa-Chitkul-Sarahan in June 2010: help with itinerary

Is staying at Chikul advisable over staying at Sangla, visiting Chitkul and returning to Sangla? I was able to get some information on budget hotels in Sangla but none in Chitkul, hence checking.

EDIT: I'm thinking I'll just head to Chitkul and look around for hotels, I'm sure I'll find one, what say?

Sangla is more of a concrete jungle, but chitkul is just 30 minutes away. Chitkul is more scenic
you can stay at sangla and spend the whole day at chitkul, and then come back in the night to sleep at your hotel.

Re: Trip to Kalpa-Chitkul-Sarahan in June 2010: help with itinerary

Great, thanks. Now comes the difficult part of figuring out what to do when I'm there
Narkanda - Hatu Peak, would I have time for anything else?
Chitkul - no clue
Dharampur - not sure if this place offers anything but an overnight stay

Re: Trip to Kalpa-Chitkul-Sarahan in June 2010: help with itinerary

1. Narkanda - Just go to Hatu peak, nothing much to do
2. At chitkul, go for walks down to the river, or trek further from chitkul towards china(just don't go far enough).
Dharampur is your night stay. You get very good food there.

China!! Chitkul's that near to China, doesn't look like that in the map?

Anything in particular, besides not wandering off far enough, that I should be careful of?

Also, can I request a travel time estimate for the entire itinerary along with route details. Only thing I'm sure of is to avoid Chandigarh city somehow.

EDIT: Open to changes itinerary as I haven't been anywhere in this valley. I just wish to go to scenic places and walk/lazy around.

Re: Trip to Kalpa-Chitkul-Sarahan in June 2010: help with itinerary

Update: Booked the Harsh Villa from the HPTDC website. Spoke to someone there and they said that they can block the First Floor room for me also, hope they do.

Need help in figuring out what all I can do in Chitkul for the 2 days I'm there.

You can do exactly the opposite of what you're doing now, i.e., just sit back, unwind & relax; without a thought crossing your mind regarding what's to be done!

When you're surrounded by the wonderful beauty of nature, two days will just fly by mate. And as Tanveer has said, there are ample walks in there. Spending an afternoon (maybe having a real picnic) on the river bank could be great I guess.

Do bear in mind do carry enough cash with you as there are no ATMs around and also take care of your fuel situation. The only fuel pump around Sangla Valley is at Powari, though you have one at Recong Peo too. And do tank up around Shimla!

Though I wasn't able to reach Chitkul during my trip, somehow I keep feeling I've been there.
