Mumbai to Trivandrum

Planning a road trip and back from Mumbai to Trivandrum. Have been reading the posts and threads and most of them have reservations about road conditions in specific stretches. While I do not expect the Indian roads to be bereft of surprises, would like some advice on this stretch now.
I’m travelling with wife and a Boxer pup of 5 months in a Swift – Diesel (33,000 kms)
The only consideration is to keep travel time to the least. My dog needs frequent 3 hour breaks. And planning only 12- 15 hours of driving/day.
As of now the plan is to travel from MUMBAI- KOLHAPUR-BELGAUM-HUBLI-BANGALORE (REST) &
BANGALORE- SALEM-MADURAI-SHENCOTTAI- TVM.
Planning to set out on May 27th and start return on June 5th.
Inputs on Dog friendly hotels/restaurants welcome.

Cheers,

Rajesh

No serious problems anywhere on this route. Just watch out for some minor bad sections between Haveri and Davangere.

You can do Bombay-Bangalore in 14-16 hours.

Only suggestion is to continue on NH& via Tirunelveli and Nagerocil instead of via Schecottah, since rains would have started in Kerala by the time you travel and the SChecottah-TVM route receives heavy rainfall.

You can follow the route for Bombay-Trivandrum in teh following link:
SOUTH INDIA, Nov 2009 - hvkumar | Google Groups
This covers Bombay-Bangalore

CENTRAL & SOUTH INDIA, January 2010 - hvkumar | Google Groups
This covers Bangalore-Trivandrum via Madurai and Nagercoil

You will find references to restaurants in the log books in both the links.

Once you leave Bombay, you may be able to find a dog-friendly hotel in Bangalore, and nowhere else. Subscribe to quick meets in tvm thread

Thanks HVK and Clevermax.
HVK, went thru your logs. Quite exhausitive. Hope wont need more info.
Heard some friends travelling the Shengottai stretch saying that the roads have been redone and can escape the busy Ngrcoil - TVM stretch.
But will take your word.
Have another leg from TVM to Rameshwaram planned as well after a 2 day break. (I'm not driving though).
So planning to minimize time on road in the down trip.

Need guidance on trip - Trivandrum - Chenganur - Kochi - Bangalore - Solapur - Mumbai

We are planning a trip down South leaving Mumbai(Kharghar) on 12th May.
Our brief onward trip itinerary is Mumbai - Goa (via Belgaum-route with night halt at Colva) - Mookambika - Mysore(2days) - Kodaikanal(2days) - Trivandrum.

Return route. Trivandrum - Chengannur - Kochi - Bangalore - Solapur - Mumbai.(24th May)

Please guide me friends on two things.
Best route to take on the Mookambika - Mysore route and the Mysore - Kodai route. Also, please recommend me a good Homestay in Mysore and Kodaikanal.

Thanks in advance.
