Hi,

I have two three day weekends in hand (Last weekend of June and First weekend of July). My folks are coming down to visit, so I was planning to take them around on these weekends.

I had initially just thought of Ooty on one weekend and Munnar on another one. But considering the weather at that time, should I be looking at another options. I don't mind a rainy drive, but too much of anything tends become a sore.

I was thinking of any two amongst the following :-

1. Wayanad

2. Munnar

3. Coorg (Took them there last year, but don't mind repeating it!)

4. Ooty (Though its lost its charm, but since we lived there in 93-94 it would be nice destination to bring back some memories from then!)

5. Chikmagalur (A bit skeptical about this as I won't be doing any trekking with my folks and don't want too much of off-roading on my Palio)

6. Kodaikanal (Don't know how rainy this place will be then)

7. What else can I consider?

Distance should not be more than 500kms or thereabouts one way, as both destinations will be covered over the three days only.

Looking forward for your inputs. :)

Try adding Yercaud/Yelagiri. Short trip and enjoy the rest.
Also, Kemmanagundi/Kudremukh.
You can also add, Kodchadri as well.

Horsely Hills in AP.

Yelagiri has nothing to offer except that its pretty close and can actually be done in one day. Yercaud again has many view points, but I'd prefer Ooty over it.

Kudremukh has been on my mind, any idea of the stay options? But it would raining too heavily in that belt and roads getting flooded is very possibility.

How are the roads to reach Kemmanagundi? And the stay options?

Kodachadri in a Palio. You kidding right???

I would recommend following destinations in order of the priority :-

Considerations:
1) Rainy season
2) 500 Kms (Drive)

Choices:
1) Chikmaglur
2) Kodai
3) Ooty

Would not suggest you Waynad or Coorg during this period.

Go for Kodai, if you would prefer driving on good roads.

Expect good/heavy rains even at Kodai during those times.

Kodai is not exactly the right place to be in monsoons. i would prefer munnar clubbed with athirapally falls. It would be raining anywhere, but kerala rains are not storms :D

I would suggest Kemmannugundi. It would be awesome in rains.

How would the rains be around the Kemmannugundi belt? And are there decent stay options available there?

Any info on what is the drive time to either Kodai or Munnar?

@praful:
Kodai/Munnar are atleast 600kms distance from Bangy.

One more options would be to try out homestays with lot of greenery.

Hey thanks for the Homestay links! :)

Maps show that Kodai/Munnar are about 500'ish. So I'm guessing the drive time should not be more than 10 hours. Considering its a good 4-lane highway for the most part.

There are good number of travelogues for Kodai/Munnar. Routes are pretty much using NH 7 most of the times for Kodai/Munnar.

Place a travelogue after the trip.

Try Parsons Valley in Ooty, if you are a nature lover. Surrounded by forest + very good food. Go for a short trek if you like.

Nice place to spend a week-end and recharge our batteries.
