1. whats the time taken from udaipur to mumbai? is it possible to reach mumbai before sun down if i start from udaipur at 8 am?
2. whats the current status of the road post ahmedabad? have been hearing bad reviews about the last 2 hour stretch.

If you start from Udaipur at 6.00 am you can make it to Bombay by 7.00 easy. The roads are good but the traffic is heavy after Baroda especially Bharuch onwards. Last two hours is like Bhiwadi to Delhi, all sorts of vehicles headed towards Bombay/Thane and beyond.

I traveled from Anand, Gujarat to Mumbai in winter and NH 8 is in beautiful condition with no congestion at all. Make sure to take the Sardar Patel Ring Road as you approach Ahmadabad and that will connect to NE.1 , so that you could avoid the city traffic.

so its a 13 hr drive? i thought it was a 10-11 hr drive?

so if i add another 1-2 hrs for reaching my destination inside mumbai it will be a total drive of around 15 hrs.....is that correct?

Udaipur-Bombay can be as fast as 9 hours in non-stop good conditions, and as long as 15-17 hours in today's conditions (someone took 13 hours just to do Ahmedabad-Bombay a few weeks ago). Problem areas are Bharuch-Ankleshwar where the River Narnmada bridge is causing 10-km long jams that can take you upto 2 hours to cross if you are a "nice" driver, but delays can be overcome if you cut, cut and cut across the shoulders and wrong side of the road. The second bottleneck is the Manor-Ghodbunder stretch which sees heavy slow-moving truck traffic, terribly-managed toll gate (at Virar-Vasai) and unfathomable traffic jams at Ghodbunder.

So, prepare yourself for delays, and some ruthless brash driving if you want to cut down your journey time.
