Surat - Hospet - Coorg - Jog - Goa - Surat

Hello All,

we are planning a road trip towards the end of August for 12-13 days as per the below planned plan of action.

we have done some home work from our side and found out that most roads in this trip are well laid and need not worry. But we found out that only issue is road from hospet to coorg. How bad is that?

below are our travel plans. We are 6 of us planning to go by a cousin's Safari.

Tentative Itinerary goes like this :

30 August – Surat to Kolhapur (as a night halt for the first destination, Hampi)
31 August- Kolhapur to Hospet, via Badami. ( Hospet is our staying option for Hampi)
1st and 2nd Sept – Two full days to explore Hampi
3rd September – Hospet to Coorg
4-5-6 September – In Coorg
7th September – Coorg to Jog falls
8th September – Jog Falls to Goa
9th – 10th September – Goa
11th – Goa to some way to Surat for night Stop
12th – Surat

Hospet to Coorg, you can go via Chitradurga, Channagiri, Hollalkere, Bhadravathi, Tarikere, Chickmagalur, Belur, Hassan to Periyapatna and Madikere.

From Goa, with an early morning start, you can make it all the way to Surat the same day.

Hello,

I know Goa to Surat is driveable in 1 day, but we prefer to take it easy. On last day we plan to start after breakfast and drive till Pune or Lonavalla. A stop over there and than proceed to Surat the next day.

By te way, how are roads on the above mentioned routes? Hospet to Coorg route that you suggested.

There is a KSTDC hotel (Mayura) in Hampi which is very close to the sites.
You can book there instead of Hospet which is about 25Km from Hampi.

Hospet-Chitradurga-Bhadravati is National Highway.
Bharavathi-Hassan is a state highway mostly decent roads.
(Bhadravathi-Tarekere-Lingadahalli-CKM-Belue-Hassan)

Hassan-Coorg may be a bit bumpy with Potholes after rains.
The route goes via Gorur-Arkalgud-Somwarpet-Madekeri.

guys,

the trip's been good so far. we are in goa at the moment. roads around madikaeri have been excellent. But the roads from Hospet to Madikeri were a night mare. it took us 13 hours to get there. we encountered 3 types of roads there; bad roads, worst roads & NO roads. i shall be starting a travellouge soon once i am back home with some pics in it.

What route did you take from Hospet to Madikeri?

From hospet we went via shimoga and hassan. terrible roads. it took us 13 hours to reach. we were advised by the locals not to take NH as the roads were broken post monsoon.
