Hello,i will be travelling from Bangalore to Bagalkot next week in our car.This is our first long road trip.please tell me which route is the best in terms of good roads.I dont mind driving a few extra miles if the road is good instead of taking a bad route.thank you

I guess the best option to go all the way till Hubli on GQ and take NH218 to Bagalkot. Much cleaner option compared to the traffic laden NH13 (Bangalore-Chitradurga-Hospet-Bagalkot).


Would add about 50-55Km more to the journey

or The best alternate would be Bangalore - Hiryur - Chalkere - Bellary - Sindhanoor - Bagalkot , Had been on this road many a times till Sindhanoor , quite very good road.

approx distance till Sindhanoor is 420 KM's

Do avoid Chitradurga - Hospet at any Cost, quite very bad Road with huge pothholes and Traffic is too high with Trucks.

Even I suggest via Sindanoor or drive via Hubli. Expect diversions and uncompleted stretches between haveri-chitradurga.

@Sagar, another route for you : Bangalore-HubliHubli - Dharwad - Savadatti - Yargatti. (Dont take Hubli-DWR by-pass)Turn right at Yargatti to go to Bagalkot.Dharwad onwards the road is good. But un-divided highway.BLR-Hubli : some stretches are still not completed, esp after Davangere.

I am planning a round trip from Bangalore to Bagalkot, Badami, Alamatti, Aihole and Pattadakal this weekend. Looking for advice on best route suggestions and road conditions.

I drive a low slung sedan (NHC) and prefer good roads to shorter routes.

I see two options on GMaps
Bangalore > Chittadurga > Hubli > Bagalkot
Bangalore > Chittadurga > Hospete > Bagalkot

Would appreciate recommendation and more specifics on town by town route.

I would recommend the following route. Good roads, lower toll and short distance

Bangalore > Chittadurga > Hospete > Bagalkot.

Suggest going via Hospet. Had travelled a couple of months back, and this route should not be a problem

Bagalkot to Alamatti Dam
Bagalkot > Mannikatti > Bilkerur > Sitimani > Alamatti
Bagalkot > Shirur > Kamatagi > Hungud > Yelaguru > Alamatti

Badami to Gadag
Badami > Belur > Hirehal > Kotabal > Rona > Abbigeri > Kotumachagi > Gadag
Badami > Kulgeri > Nargund > Navalgund > Hubli > Shiraguppi > Annigeri > Gadag

Also do you have any recommendations for places to stop and eat on the way between Bangalore and Hospete, needs to be decent for a family with good clean restrooms.
