Take this road, if you need to enjoy a traffic free drive for Airport, but a little longer. Also this enroute is good to get into any south of TN as this bye-pass connects NH4-NH46.

This route is best if one wants to reach any of the southern suburbs between Tambaram and St Thomas Mount (Sanatorium-Chromepet-Pallavaram-Airport/Meenambakkam-Nanganallur) and between Tambaram and Chengalpet (Perungalathur,Vandalur,Guduvanchery,MM Nagar, Mahindra City etc). Also to connect to Pondy and any south TN towns such as Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chidambaram, Sirkali, Mayavaram, Kumbakonam etc.

It is a breeze and a pleasure to drive from Maduravoyal junction to Tambaram and well worth the toll. I always take this route even when I visit the track day, even though there are much shorter routes available.

Also when is the bridge at Porur junction getting over? Any updates?

The Koyambedu flyover is nearly complete. Some painting and signboard work is going on. I heard it may be opened by month end.

Whoaa!!! Are you sure Gilead? I'd been there nearly a month ago & still couldn't see any signs of work starting on the Annanagar side. I'm no way questioning your observation, but this is a big surprise to me that the bridge construction at Maduravoyal started long before Koyambedu, yet the Koyambedu bridge nearing completion is a like :Shockked: to me & hence this question.

I don't think there is anything coming up on the Annanagar side. Vehicles from Annanagar will go below the bridge. I pass through that side daily and work seemed to be nearly complete.

@Gilead, so what's the purpose of the bridge? Connecting Chennai city to NH4? Is that all? So if I understand right, when I come from Annanagar, I would only see a straight bridge that is perpendicular right?

But wondering why the Ministry of Shipping took over the land from Vijayakanth's party office if the bridge is going to be perpendicular.

There is a loop running from the Arumbakkam side to Annanagar side which goes above Captain's land. It's a weird curve. Maybe it was shaped like that due to you know what.

This is what they are building there. A parclo interchange. Not as pretty and neat, but you get an idea. The freeway running along the ground is 100 ft road. Elevated is PH road.

I'll have to make a correction to my post above. It looks like the Koyambedu flyover won't be ready by month end.

A 30 meter section on the elevated bridge at the end of the Arumbakkam side and a 20 meter section in the middle of the clover loop going from Arumbakkam->Anna Nagar is missing. The rest of the bridge appears complete.

I think the elevated road is the continuation of the Tambaram bypass road proceeding northwards, and the road running underneath is the Poonamalee high road. The ground level loop to enter PH road from the Tambaram bypass road is also not ready. It is under construction and full of bumps.

Gansan, the pic above is the shape of the Koyambedu junction, not Maduravoyal. I have no idea what's happening at Maduravoyal.

Oh, sorry Gilead! The shape of the flyover looked identical!

The maduravoyal flyover is for connecting the expressway from Tambaram to the port.
It is an elevated road and work in ambattur area for this road is almost over.

The koyambedu flyover is for vehicles coming from Arumbakkam to Maduravoyal and vice versa. For vehicles from CMBT to Annanagar west it is the existing road, but 3 more roundabouts are also being constructed to manage the seamless flow of the other turns ( left and right)

Here's the update as on date;
Road (Bridge) connecting Mogappair (not Ambattur) - Chennai Bye-pass - Completed
Road (Bridge) connecting NH4 - Chennai Bye-pass - Completed
Road (via Bridge) connecting Chennai - NH4 - on going construction
Again, completed means, its motorable with lanes marked.

Stretch from Ambattur is not yet done as the bridge is partially done; the roads needs to be laid well to the elevated section.

Maduravoyal bridge is nearing completion. This mean, the 3 entry/exits on left & right are nearly completed; just few work such as smoothening & constructing some small section of side walls are going on.

Maduravoyal bridge is technically open; this means, the two exits & one entry on both the sides of the bridge are open & vehicles are plying through, however, few sign boards are missing & the parapet wall is still under construction in addition to smoothening the corners & joints.

Hi friends of Chennai,

After the divertion of the Mofussal buses through Maduravoyal road, I happend to drive from Madhyakailash Halda Gindy to Tambaram in the peak hour. After Kathipara I did felt the peaceful Mofussal bus free drive. I feel it can continue even after the completion of the Metro project too.
