I embark on an annual Monsoon Konkan drive with a friend every year, and have been doing so for the past 7 years now.

This time i am leaving on 13th Aug (tomorrow) and intend to return on 18th evening.

The route plan chosen this year is something like this :

Mumbai - Murud - Kankavli - Malvan - Sawantwadi - Goa... and back

Every year that we travel, we have ended up making great friends with otherwise unknown people from various places. This year we have had an invitation from several of them to visit again, hence the slightly detoured route choice.

Here are my queries :

1. Has anyone done a similar road trip across Konkan during these monsoons? I am particularly keen on knowing about the condition of the roads there.

2. I would love to actually take the State Highway down from Murud and hug the coastline as much as i can. Can anyone tell me whether there is now a bridge from Dabhol to Guhaghar? (3 years ago, i put my car on a ferry and crossed over. not sure if this option will be open during monsoons)

3. This year we are travelling in my friends new Eeco. Any reviews on how this car handles on wet & curving roads? (I ain't no stunt man, so i dont anyway intend to push the car beyond mine and its functional capabilities)

4. I read a thread about the horses' mating season in Murud and how a fellow member got his car smashed in by a horny horsey! :Shockked: Wouldn't want that happening to me. Any specific dates or places to avoid??

Well, thats all for now. Will post pics and blogs as the journey commences.

NH17 from Bombay to Pholadpur is fine, but no idea after that. Rains have been heavy, am sure there must be bad patches around river bridges.

AFAIK, there is still no bridge across Vashishti between Guhagar and Dabhol.

You could check out the following links about my drives on the Konkan coast - the road closest to the coast:

Ha Ha Ha !

Thats too funny to hear. But are there so many horses in Murud? Just try to park the vehicle away from these beasts.

Anyway, I visited Konkan a couple of years back in monsoon. It was raining so much that had to just sit in hotel room & watch the rain :Frustrati

Wish you a very Happy & safe Journey

I visited Dapoli (Karde Beach) mid-July. We took all inner roads and most of them were in good condition. But then there were heavy rains and floods in the third week of July and the road condition now could be a little bad. But that could be all the more fun in monsoon.

I was told in Dapoli that there was no bridge between Dabhol and Guhagar yet. One needed to use a ferry and that was operational mid-July.
I was in Malvan/Vengurle in December 2009. We took NH-17 upto Kudal. The internal roads beyond Kudal were not very good, but were not too worrisome in a Scorpio.
Wish you all the best and await your travelogue with photographs.
