Take dhule, ratlam, chittorgarh route. I just did that 4 days back. Smooth roads all the way. Less traffic on most of the parts.

Will be faster, will help you bypass Udaipur without much ado and pass through some of the scenic sections of Aravalis as well.
What I meant from my response earlier was in relation to the Udaipur Road only. If you notice, the route I mentioned is not via Himmatnagar as you asked. Instead, this is via "Abu Road - Palanpur - Mehasana".

The reason to suggest this was because this route is relatively faster as opposed to reaching Ahmedabad via Himmatnagar - Tried and tested many times.

Udaipur Bypass is slow through the Himmatnagar option and the one that I suggested doesn't even make you take that bypass and straightaway turn right onto Abu Road just before Udaipur Bypass.

Absolutely. The biggest question which I normally have is when someone adds Udaipur-Ahmedabad etc into their via Points, I safely assume that they would "prefer" to take a night halt here and as well do some sight seeing or make it a holiday.

However, under all other circumstances, whether is Pune or Mumbai, if one is heading towards Delhi and wants to avoid the busy Mumbai - Ahmedabad - Ajmer sector totally, Dhule - Ratlam - Nemuch - Chittorgarh is the way to go.

That is now a standard commute route unless one is holidaying and wants to stay in famous places enroute.

If someone wants to kill there legs then please take ahmedabad route. Just crap of a highway. Roads are good but then trucks traffic is hell. Dont know why people suggest this route. I would anyday suggest ratlam route.

Re: Mumbai - Ahmedabad - Jodhpur : Route Queries

I am planning a trip to cover Jodhpur,Jaisalmer and Udaipur in the first week of November.

My tentative plan is to :

Day 1 : Start Mumbai around 7am and reach udaipur around 7-8pm.
Day 2 : Sightseeing Udaipur.
Day 3 : More Sightseeing in Udaipur and leave for Jodhpur post Lunch.
Day 4 : Sightseeing Jodhpur.
Day 5 : Checkout around 10 and leave for Jaisalmer.Visit 2-3 places in Jaisalmer.
Day 6 : Desert Safari
Day 7: Leave Jaisalmer for Ahmedabad.
Day 8: Reach Mumbai.

Please suggest any better plan and roads.
I am even contemplating skipping Jodhpur due to a long journey.

My personal opinion, Desert Safari (Day 6) is not a full day affair and best enjoyed in the evening and night (with the performance and dinner and may be a night stay in the tents). Hotels in Jaisalmer offer packages for Desert safai where they pick up from hotel at about 5 PM - Go to Sam Dunes - Do the camel ride - dance troop performance and dinner and drop back at hotel by 10 PM (if you are not staying overnight at the tents).

You could use that day to cover some other places like Bikaner (The Jodhpur Palace and the havelis (very well maintained) + the Camel research centre + the karnidevi temple (rat temple) is definetly worth the visit to Bikaner or if not Bikaner you could spend some time of Day 6 at Longewala.

Regards
Diesletuned.

I agree.
Came back from Ajmer trip....road is full of Truck, trucks...trucks.

Ankleshwar-Bharuch: stuck in Jam for 3 hrs, even golden gate bridge was jam and traffic is diverted towards bypass. This is due to implementation of 1 way traffic at new bridge on bypass. Old bridge is very weak and does vertical oscillation even with small vehicles on it. Felt very unsafe.

Skipped Ahemdabad-Himmatnagar by using Vadodra-Godhra-Modasa route: very smooth tarmac, high speeds and best part is NO TOLL ( cars are excepted from toll).

Udaipur Bypass: better to go within the city instead of using bypass even in day.

Next trip will use Indore-ratlam route with stay at indore

Re: Mumbai - Ahmedabad - Jodhpur : Route Queries

Planning a trip to Vadodara, Ahmedabad from Pune in first week of November.

What is the best time to reach Ankaleshwar - Bharauch section so than traffic jam is minimum?

Is it better to forget NH and use Golden bridge?

Experienced travelers please suggest!

And no, if you plan it well, this bridge or the mess around this bridge is not a big deal at all. I have crossed this during the day and night many times now and every time I have relied totally on Googlemaps. Assess the traffic and take a call. Don't just follow everyone blindly and get stuck while you see rest of the traffic deviating elsewhere.

Interesting pictorial update on the new bridge on Narmada between Ankleshwar - Bharuch.

Hoping that this one gets functional soon and make way (an easy and a fast one) for one of the most unpredictable sectors between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

AMD-Jaisalmer is usually a 10hr drive via the NH15 Deesa-Tharad-Sanchore-Barmer.

Jodhpur-AMD via Pali-Sirohi-Mt Abu-Palanpur is another 9-10hr drive.

Re: Mumbai - Ahmedabad - Jodhpur : Route Queries

Hi,
On my return from Jaisalmer to Pune, I am planning to stay in Ahmedabad. Any good hotel suggestion on the Ahmedabad -- Mumbai NH around Ahmedabad area. I don't want to come inside the city at all. Please suggest. Thanks

Re: Mumbai <> Jodhpur?

Planning a trip this weekend from Mumbai to Jodhpur with a preferred overnight stopover at Rajasthan.

Please suggest on what's the best time/route to leave from Mumbai(Goregaon(W)) this saturday to enter Rajasthan by evening, eateries on the way and any sight seeing options on the drive to Jodhpur. The trip would be comprised of 3 families and kids traveling in as many vehicles. The return would be on early hours of thursday to Mumbai from Jodhpur.

Any decent/budget accommodation options around Rajasthan border, which should be closer to highway OR on the highway as the next morning, will leave for Jodhpur.

The Jodhpur accommodation is courtesy, one of the accompanying families timeshare at Club Mahindra. Any good lunch/dinner options which is NOT to be missed and all the must see sights in and around Jodhpur, as we stay here for 3 days.

Please advise!
