Hotel Supreme and Park Plaza. Please note both have no parking.
Need to park on the road.

I would suggest Hotel Ratna Regency right next to Hotel Supreme. Good rooms and similarly priced as Supreme. Try Hotel Sabari on the same road for good veg. food.

Just back from Madurai - Stayed at MR International which is stone throw distance from West Gopuram . Here you go with the contact number + 91- 452- 2348201/02. Had to pay 1700 (all inclusive) for AC double room (Delux?)- Not sure whether it was a rip off. Had no option to bargain/discuss since we landed late evening with two families with Kids. Was lucky to get underground parking at the hotel - was not ok with some of the hotels which offered - on road parking - considering the narrow lanes around the temple and the auto/cycle rickshaws that ply on them

Temple timings
Guess you would be able to attend the evening session at the temple - 4/430PM to 9PM on Friday or since you are staying back early morning Saturday would also not be a bad option. Temple opens around 5AM. There are options for Special Darshanam INR 15 (Without Queue or a minor queue) / INR 100 ( taken into the Sanctum Sanctorum directly).

Cheers!

Re: Recommendation for good hotel in Madurai? Suggestion please

Fridays will be usually well crowded, though its auspicious to visit on a friday
Saturday early morning will be better option to see the gods more peacefully.

When you say budget, do you mean less than 1000 bucks, if I assume right?
Usually, the tariff for normal/average hotel around temple area (Town Hall Road side which has good food options) for a double room would be anywhere between 500 at minimum to 1000, assuming you are not looking for fancy type hotels.

I don't recommend New College House these days, because you have better options with same price range. Hotel Pearls and other hotels in West Perumal maistry street will be good options which may fit your budget. Its about a km walk to temple which you won't feel tiring.
