Take Route 2, coz it's a bit scenic & even Maravanthe is on the way.
Did Kollur-Kundapur (the direct one, not the one via Maravanthe/Baindoor) yesterday. The road has been freshly laid and is a breeze to cruise through.

Any idea if the proposed closure of the Nagara - Kollur road inside the Mookambika wildlife sanctuary has started or not?

No idea. I did come from Sagara to Kollur (via Hasirumakki barge), on 30-Dec. Guess this is a parallel road to Nagara-Kollur and passed thru the base of Kodachadri, Nittur etc., The road was open, though fairly bad. I didn't see anything which suggested the closure.

Why do they want to close the road - some dam waters submerging the region?
How is the condition of the road now?

For repair work. I was in kollur mid Dec and the jeep drivers to kodachadri told that the road ( from the check post at starting of mookambika wild life sanctuary till kollur will be closed for almost 6 months starting Jan 1st).

The road from Nagara to kollur is in pathetic condition. 43 km - 2.5 hrs.

I don't think dam waters are the cause, for there isn't much water.

The condition of road is "bad" to "decent". Mostly pot holled, patched-up here and there, patching up work here and there etc., Portions of the road have come-off in the hair-pin bends. Lot lot better in comparison to say Bisle ghats (where there are no roads at all). Low GC cars can move without bottom scrapping with some patient driving.

Re: Blr-Shimoga-Jog Falls-Kollur-Udipi-D'sthala-Blr

Hi Bhpians, I am planning a 3 day trip to Shimoga and Jog falls in the next week. I have a few questions, would appreciate if you can help me with these.
1. First of all, is it a wise thing to drive to Shimoga / Jog falls and around at this time considering I have a 2 yr toddler with me?
2. How is road condition to Shimoga and then to Jog falls?
3. I am planning a leisurely trip with Day 1 around Shimoga, one day to Jog falls and next day return. Any suggestions?
4. I am planning to stay at Royal Orchid all 3 days, is there a better options with resort kind of a setting?

I appreciate your help in this

- 3 days is more than sufficient
- Roads are pretty good.
- But I would say would'nt Jog look good may be in Aug? Will let others comment on the same. If anyone has been there recently he can comment.

Thanks ampere. Which one is a better option Shimoga or Chikmangalur?

For Jog Shimoga is better. You can also do a day at River tern Jungle lodges. Next day head to Jog and can be back to Shimoga.

Unless they open the dam gates, Jog wouldn't look great. Travelling with a 2 year old isn't a problem, you maybe can't walk down Jog carrying the kid. But otherwise its fine. I've travelled in KA monsoons last 2 years with mine (she turns 4 later this year).

I'd say don't restrict yourself to Jog. You could explore a few temples, Magod Falls, Sunset point (which are on Yellapur-Sirsi) side. Stay one night near Jog (can't remember the exact KA tourism stay), one maybe at Yellapur (Banana county comes to mind).

Thanks for the info. Actually I am planning to stay at a retreat near Thirthahalli (60 km south-west of Shimoga). Do you think its a good idea? A lot of places are there nearby (Agumbe, Kundadri, Kodachadri, Humcha etc.)
