munnar to kodaikanal- thro the forest

It looks like there are 2 routes

Top Station -> Berijam lake -> Mannavanur -> Kodai - This is the forest route everyone is talking about. This is a no go, except possibly trekking.

Top Station -> Vattavada -> Kottakamboor -> Kadavari -> Kodai - This one is motorable by 2 wheeler and 4wd as evidenced by the blog in the earlier post.

I am hoping to get input from someone that has done the 2nd route. the 1st route is a no go as it is through deep forest and the entrance is manned, and you probably cant even get in.
