Thank you for all your quick and prompt reply. Now that the dates are getting closer, I am getting more apprehensive.

I have created a detailed route plan for everyday and below I am submitting my first day route. Can the experts please guide me and tell me if this is OK and any suggestions are welcome.

How is the Prakriti Resort for a family? Do I have to book in advance for the room?

Also please guide me how to pass through Jaipur from point B to point C as shown in the picture.

Depart from Dwaraka Sector 11 Metro Station on Road No 203
Take a left towards Road No 221
At the third intersection, take right on Road No 201
Continue past 2 intersections and take the Dwaraka flyover
After flyover go straight one intersection and then take the tunnel[
After tunnel take straight road and join NH8 from under the bridge towards right, towards Gurgaon
Go ahead on NH8 past Gurgaon, Manesar, Shahpura towards Jaipur
After Jaipur Join NH8 again
Drive straight again past Dudu on NH8
Will reach the turnoff near Kishangarh onto NH79, left from NH8
Go strainght on NH79 past Silora, Shrinager until the outskirts of Nasirabad
Here take left road, Nasirabad bypass, to avoid Nasirabad town
Rejoin NH79 after Nasirabad
Go straight past Jharwasa, Bandanwara, Mandal until Bhilwara
Bypass Bhilwara by continuing on the NH79
Continue straight until NH79 joins NH76, connect to NH76 and proceed towards Udaipur
Straight on NH76 past Bhadura
Further ahead the NH76 turns to right at intersection with SH15
Straight towards Udaipur past Debari
Before reaching Udaipur, take left from Pratap Nagar Circle
Go straight on this road past Geentanjali Medical College, past SH32 intersection to join NH8 again towards left
Go straight past on NH8 past Kaya, Barapal, Guman , Paduna, Parshad, Somawat, Gambhol, Himatnagar towards Ahmadabad
Before reaching Ahmadabad, take right on Sardar Patel Ring Road to join the Ahmadabad Vadodra Expressway NE1 towards right.
Go straight to Vadodra on NE1 and it joins SH8 before Vadodra
After joining take a left on NH8 and proceed towards Prakriti Resorts
Overnight stay at Prakriti Resorts

Your driving distance will depend upon :

i. fellow travellers ( food & nature breaks)
ii. road/traffic conditions;
iii. driving style
iv. start time

What is your driving distance on this your day one? I guess this will be very close to a thousand kms. Please consider all factors before embarking on such a long drive in a single day.

Hey Firoz,
Please make a detailed plan based on the Kms to be covered in a day. Please provide for delays. Do not plan to drive to your limit each day. I recently did a Mumbai - Bangalore trip in a day. It was roughly 850kms for me. But It took a good 2-3 hrs beyond my schedule. That too I was just travelling with my friend. So with your family, you need to be even more conservative. Especially post monsoon in the south India, you never know.

My suggestion would be ... do not plan for more than 750kms a day. Spend some time on the way. Visit tourist places on the way. It is a great opportunity to visit small places enroute.

On the route -> I can talk only about NH4. It is really good. Big roads, no traffic and delight to drive. Again from Bangalore to Mysore (via NICE road) is pretty. Recently I went to Mysore. After Mysore to Calicut, I am not sure.

Despite having driven Delhi-Bombay so many times, these instructions are too cryptic and unhelpful!

Let me simplify some of these instructions.

Go on NH8 from Gurgaon via Manesar, Behror, Kotputli & Shahpura.
Take the Jaipur Bypass (which is also on NH8)
After crossing Jaipur, continue on NH8 which becomes the GVK Jaipur-Kishnagarh EXpressway.
At the end of the expressway, before Kishangarh, turn left onto NH79 towards Nasirabad/Bhilwara
Continue till Chittorgarh, where you take the bypass and turn right onto NH76 towards Udaipur


There is no confusion anywhere. Signages are excellent.
At the Jaipur bypass point, the signboards will indicate Ajmer & Udaipur. It goes to the right.

A fast driver going non-stop should take 9 hours from Gurgaon to Udaipur, allow for at least 4 more hours for stops and slower speeds.

very much helpful route mentioned.. I think i was over emphasizing on a very detialed route.

The other question, do I have to pre book my hotels or can I just walk in to get a room at Vadodra?

If its Prakruti Resort that you are looking to stay,then advance booking would be the best idea.A friend recently stayed there last week and reports the place to be excellent and is on NH8 itself.Ideal for family.

The only point where you need to keep your eyes open like HVK mentioned are at these points:

GVK Expressway @ Kishengarho not go straight as that also leads to Udaipur via NH8 and the road is bad and time consuming and is 2laned.Instead if lost,ask for directions to Chittorgarh,this is the 4laned NH79A/NH79(79A till Nasirabad and then on its 79)

The other place is at Ahmedabad,where follow directions to the Baroda Expressway or the SP Ringroad,else you might end up inside AMD city.
