Normally it would be Rs 1600 approx from Bangalore to Mumbai excluding the toll if any applicable on the NICE road. This toll is for the Chitradurga-Davangere-Belgavi-Karad-Pune route.

You can refer to https://tollguru.com/toll-calculator-india (1580/- from BLR-BOM)
Even Google Maps shows the Toll charges for any selected route.
Happy and Safe drive!!!

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Hi, need small help from experts who have travelled on this route

I am travelling from Bangalore (Sarjapur road) to Goa, near Arrosim beach. Due to some constraints, I will be leaving Bangalore by 1PM on a weekday (Thursday) in second week of October.

I want to ideally take a break at around 7 - 7:30 PM somewhere since I want to avoid night driving. Hubli is an option for break, but not sure if I can reach Hubli by 7 - 7:30 PM by leaving from Sarjapur road at 1 PM. I will have to take 2-3 breaks en route from Bangalore since I am with 2 Kids.

Other option is to take a break at Sai comforts or Mayura Durga at Chitradurga, but that will be too early and will have to cover longer distance on the next day to Goa

Any other option I should be looking at? Or will I be able to reach Hubli in time? I usually maintain 100-110 type speeds with fairly relaxed driving

You can easily make it to Hubli by 7.30PM, by leaving at 1PM. Just take the NICE road, to reach tumkur road.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Hello fellow bhpians

I will be travelling from Bangalore to Mumbai towards the end of October. Last time I undertook this journey, I had commenced very early in the morning (2-3amish) and completed the journey in a single day. However, I found it a challenge to find a good place to have breakfast and a clean washroom that early in the morning; hence want to be better prepared this time. Was going through the 1st page (Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries) of this thread and had a couple of queries.

(1) HPCL COCO attached to Kamat: Does anyone know the business hours of this particular Kamat's?

(2) IOCL Station before Davanagere Bypass (as mentioned in the 1st page): The Gmaps location of this place is missing / wrong. If it is still operational, can someone post the correct link?

(3) Is there any COCO petrol bunk and/or a good place to eat between the above mentioned Kamat's and the BPCL COCO at Sira?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Hi friends,

There is an ensuing trip Mumbai - Bangalore this week.
Dates are flexible.

Question is, in terms of traffic on the road, is it better to travel over the weekend (Saturday/Sunday) or any weekdays. Is one better over the other?

There would be a overnight stay at Belagavi, whether weekend or weekday trip. Can this remain neutral or does this require change also.

Regards

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Returned back to Bangalore from Pune yesterday. Started at 4.30 am from Pune, reached Bangalore at 3.30 pm, total 10 hrs driving time and 1 hour break time. 3 breaks taken - Fuel stop at BPCL Kognoli at 7.30 am, Breakfast at Kamat restaurant Hubli at 10.05 am, Tea break at Kamat Aahar, Sira at 1.20 pm.

The stretch from Pune to Satara is Ok, waiting for the tunnel work to be completed so that the Kambatki ghat can be skipped. The pain and frustrations starst before Karad and ends at Hattargi. Lot many diversions due to ongoing road widening works. I fail to understand the logic of destroying the existing road to create new roads, infrastructure scalability should be such that existing things are still in place when new things are introduced. The roads created for diversions are also broken in many places with only gravel on the road and no tarring done, unmarked speed breakers are biggest scares, they pop up unannounced.

The real roads start after Hattargi and except for the 27km single lane road between Dharwad and Hubli, cruise control can be used for the rest of the roads till Tumkur. Look out for the badly patched roads between Nippani and Sankeshwar.

The traffic was sparse, was lucky to see no 2 wheeler crowd between Karad and Kolhapur. However saw lot many of them in Tumkur Nelamangala stretch.

Got an fuel average of 17.7 kms with avg speed of 84 kmph in my Harrier.

PS: Was surprised to know none of the Kamat hotels on the highway stock fizzy drinks, wanted to have sprite, couldnt get it anywhere.

Last few trips via Bangalore to Mumbai have entered the Nice Road at Electronic City around 12 - 12.30 PM. With 3 stops - a refueling stop, a second for lunch & a third for a bio break (evening tea if required) reached Hubli well before 6.00 PM.

This should not be an issue IMO

Weekend or Weekday does not really make a difference if you leave Mumbai really early say around 4.00 AM else you will get traffic all the way to Kolhapur.

With a 4.00 AM departure you should be able to reach Bangalore between 6 & 7 PM.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Dear Team BHPians,

Planning to travel to Bengaluru during November. My plan is to drive within a day. Start early by 5 am and reach before late night. I'm neither pedal to metal nor sedate driver, but an opportunistic driver who would take chances on good roads and drive cautiously on bad patches. When I googled the routes, found the following routes:

Route 1:
Pune - Satara - Kolhapur - Nippani - Belagavi - Hubbali - Davanagare - Chitradurga - Tumkuru - Bengaluru

Route 2:
Pune - Solapur - Vijayapura - Hosapeta - Chitradurga - Tumkuru - Bengaluru

Route 3:
Pune - Solapur - Kalaburagi - Raichur - Mantralayam - Anantpur - Chikkaballapur - Bengaluru

Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries-pune-bengaluru-routes.jpg
Google maps routes - Pune to Bengaluru

Opinion on Route 1:
Recently drove this stretch during my Goa trip. Though its NH and the most used route, found it really unpleasant to drive due to horrid traffic due to road works/ expansions/ diversions till Belagavi.

Opinion on Routes 2 & 3:
I've riden BRMs / Randonneuring till Solapur. So very comfortable with this route till Solapur. I'm not sure how the road conditions are post Solapur.

Travel crew: 2 adults and 2 kids

My priorities are:
  • Should be friendly route - Don't intend to take hostile routes which are prone to freak attacks / violence
  • I'm a single driver - If I've to break my journey mid-way, need a good stay place to stay with family. So suggest accordingly
  • Eateries on route - Will try to carry breakfast and lunch - But still suggestions for good eataries on the routes will be a bonus
I'm driving the Tata Altroz XZA+ DCA. Any suggestions on what specific accessories to carry. Currently don't have the following:
  • Tyre inflator - I've the basic one given by Tata OEM along with car. It will take eons to fill from flat
  • Dash cams - I really repent missing on affixing one at the time of purchase. Missed on several of my trips to capture some beautiful sceneries. Though the main purpose is totally different
  • dTPMS - Current set-up is an iTPMS. Found it close to useless. Have no plans to invest in dTPMS with doubtful/ short battery life
  • Vacumn cleaners - I know this had to be basic accessory to be bought at the time of car purchase. Suggest some good ones
Hoping for good support and guidance from this forum members/ travellers.

I would still suggest Route no 1 coz you can make up for the lost time between Karad and Hattargi with some fantastic stretches after Hattargi all the way till Tumkur. Another advantage of this route is there is no dearth of eateries and fuel bunks, refer to page 1 of this thread.

The issue with Route 2 is less and unknown eateries and fuel bunks. Its a struggle there. The 4 laned roads are good all the way till Chitradurga, lesser traffic except for the occasional wind mill blades transport which may hinder otherwise good and then again you join back to NH48.

Never tried route 3, never felt the need.

Posting this query in this thread as the Chennai-Pune thread is not active.

Is it safe to drive a TN registered car through Karnataka at the moment ? I am driving down to Pune in the third week of October and was wondering if my usual route of Chennai - Pune via NH48 is safe given the current tension in Karnataka due to the water issue.

Last weekend one of my colleague made it both ways on a TN-11 car.

But after this am a bit concerned.

If your eventual destination is Pune, just take the Ongole-Hyderabad-Solapur route.

Thank you sir, am travelling on Oct 21, hopefully there is no issue then. My place of stay in Pune is Baner, the only issue taking the Hyderabad route is I will have to cut across Pune city in the night. Secondly this route is 2 hours longer due to road conditions but the difference in distance is negligible at 31kms.
