Thanks - Loud and Clear!

I think that sorts this one out - just one last one - eating joints on the Pune - Hubli stretch and a good stay option at Belgaum/Hubli for the night

Ravi

Have taken cognizance of what you said and would definitely explore this option of doing Goa via Hubli - Karwar one way either while going or returning - in all probability while going.

I guess this is what makes BHPians so special - I thought I was a driving buff - I find others like you, HVK and Ampere who are no different.

I would do different routes in and out of Goa as I hate traveling the same route twice in succession - it generates monotony.

If viable will also post a nice travelogue with pics of my Delhi - Shirdi - Pune - Goa drive

Maybe you can check out this route guide which I have prepared for someone which gives you all the details including facilities like restaurants and petrol pumps.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...1ViczVQYjRDT0E

In Belgaum, the best option is Hotel Sankam Residency (marked in the guide).
In Hubli, the best options are HOtel Ayodhya/Hotel Ananth Residency (both budget, good), Hotel Hans (expensive).

HVK

Great Inputs - I am having problems loading that sheet will try again after sometime.

My Action Plan - correct me if I am off target

1. While going I aim to do Belgaum - Hubli - Karwar - Goa for sheer driving
pleasure considering I would get excellent road conditions - would take
approximately five hours from Belgaum to Goa using this route
2. While returning will use the Sawantwadi - Amboli Ghat - Belgaum route -
should take 3.5 to 4 hours but cover Amboli before 6 PM if possible
3. Check in at Hotel Sankam Residency while going in.

Clarifications required

1. How is Hotel Hilltop - Kolhapur for a night check in while going to Goa

2. Is there a good and Value for money option for spending a night at
Sawantwadi for a night with wife and kids

The same file is attached here.

5 hours to Goa from Belgaum via NH63 - difficult! Also depends on which part of Goa you are going to stay in.

Hotel Hill Top at Panhala is fine, but why would you want to go so much of course just to stay overnight. To get there, you have to get into the city and hit the road to Panhala. It is better to stay at Hotel Opal or Hotel Pearl which are just off the highway as you proceed towards the city.

Instead of Sawantwadi, why not choose Amboli? Or if feeling expensive, why not stay at Terakol Fort which has got a heritage hotel?

+1.

Stay at amboli, lot of options at all range.
Sawantwadi and Amboli both have Vitthal Kamat hotel.
At Kolhapur, stay at opal/pearl as HVK suggested.

You will get lot of driving pleasure in goa itself, why such long drive via hubli-karwar?
do visit sankeshwar town for cheap kolhapuri chappals, amboli for scenic spots, sawantwadi market for beautiful wooden items.

Correct me then:

1. What is the estimated travel time from Belgaum to Goa via NH63
2. What are the good options for a stay at Amboli
3. Where is Terkol Fort

Your expertise on these:

1. Amboli Ghat or Sawantwadi - which is more scenic to stay for a day

2. Belgaum - Amboli Ghat - Sawantwadi - Goa - should be done

3. Belgaum - Anmod Ghats - Goa is not a OK drive

Belgaum-Hubli 1.5 hrs
Hubli-NH63-NH17 Ankola, 3 hrs
NH17 Ankola-Karwar-Madgaon, 3 hrs (add extra 1 hour for Panaji)
This is without any breaks.

Terakol Fort is teh tip of Goa. You can travel north of Vagator Beach via Siolim, Arambol beaches and reach the Kerim Ferry point, where you can take the boat across to Terakol Fort Tiracol Fort Heritage Hotel and Resort Goa - BestGoaDeals.com

From there, you can exit onto NH17 directly to Savantwadi.

Check out the ferry and the road connections here:

Estimated time depends on which part of Goa you are going to stay in. At Amboli i would suggest Vitthal Kamat. Terkol fort no idea , may be hvk can provide us the details.

Oops , that was pretty fast Hvk Sir...

Great input
1.So the way I see it if I should want to do the Hubli route I am looking at a 9 hour drive(inclusive of a short break) while
2. If I do the Belgaum Amboli - sawantwadi - Goa road I would be doing a 4 hour drive right?
3. I need to make a choice and a stay could be for Amboli or Sawantwadi - experiential as one would say - which is more scenic?

Amboli is a hill station, Sawantwadi is simply the plains close to the coast.

My ans in bold.

Amboli has lot of options to stay.
stay at MTDC's green valley resort managed by vitthal kamat,
i stayed here for 3-4 times,
nice facilities, ample plays for kids,
online booking is available at ::The Official website of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation

I suggest that go and come back via amboli route,
you will save time, distance, energy to spend in Goa.
People love to reach to goa as fast as possible and leave goa as late as possible.
