Goa Route Queries

Hi,

I am planning to drive down to Goa (from Hyderabad) in August. is it Advisable? What precautions should I take? My Palio has been serviced abt 2 months back and is in good shape. I might need to replace the wipers though.
How about rains in Aug?

Cheers

Not a really good idea

The scenery on the way and in Goa will be awesome, but i guess the roads will not be to good for your car. The roads will be full of potholes.

No problem if you take NH9 via Solapur, but roads via Bijapur District could be bad

Anytime is good in goa ...cheers: but it's great that time of the year, the climate is great.. it usually does not rain much ,but last couple of years the rains have been unpredictable.so can not say any thing. get good wipers and check for roads cause the monsoon will have washed away some [not in goa] on the rout to goa.

hello surfer, check out the goa travelogue by Zappo. It is now the official hyd-goa planner. I guess you might be travelling on 14th. If so, you can just tailgate Avi, who might be fliying wiht his pete box. change the wiper blades, get it checked up one more before travel. always good to do that.

Thanks guys. Well, I am planning a long trip for about 5 days to Goa. Planning to go to Humpi, Jog falls and any other good places near by before hitting goa. Now, the roads in karnataka have not been that great. i was in Goa for last X'mas and was driving from belgaum to Hubli. It was very bad road and i was driving a Swift that time.

Shiva, great to know you too are planning a trip to Goa. Looks like we are birds of the same feather.

My plan is fixed, I am leaving ( 1+3 friends) for Goa on either Aug 13th, 4:00pm or Aug 14th,5:00AM. If the former, then will stop at Sholapur and start again at 5:00AM and reach Goa by late afternoon. If latter, then will be reaching goa late evening. If your plan to start is around that time, then we can go together.

Anurag, join up if you too are heading out in the same timeframe.

I plan to take the following route : Hyd-Solapur-Pandarpur-Kolapur-Sawantwadi-Panjim. Maybe a little diversion here and there depending on the road condition. Will try finding out through the forum the road conditions just before leaving so can plan accordingly. I never took karnataka route and will especially not take it during monsoons.

Regarding how Goa is in Aug? I have been there twice before during independence day and it rocks. It is lush, green, inviting and simply awesome. Night life maybe a little damp. But, what the heck, nightlife is not everything about Goa.

Only precaution to be taken is good wipers, tyres and have loads of enthusiasm

Dinar, look forward to meeting you again in Goa along with Rohan.

That's nice. Let us all keep checking this thread and when the time is near lets share the contacts so we can meet up in Goa during that weekend.

Looks like this is already building up into quite a meet. Will be around Goa too with my wife and our Pete'd Swift around that weekend (hopefully my first long drive after getting it Pete'd) but also planning to laze around at Gokarna and Kumta on the way so not sure when exactly we'd be in Goa. Will periodically check this thread for updates though.

Goa- August! I wouldn't recommend

Hi guys
Since I don't know what your purpose for the visit is, this opinion of mine is very generic. Assuming that you are going for water-sports or recreation, there's little you will find. Water-sports are not on due to the monsoons and don't open till October, the time when pvt. charters start flowing in the foreigners. Shacks are few in number and over-all, goa presents a very "dead" look. The weather is fine but is humid as well and one prefers to stay Indoors.
Someone has already said that night-life would not be active, which is true. Should you happen to visit a night club(club-cabbana is closed till September end), you'll find all guys and if you're with a girl/wife, you'll find them staring at the lone woman. So take your pick.
I would suggest, head out there post October and you'll see a "european" goa and a lot more lively goa.
Cheers!
M2S

M2S, thanks for the tips. Just to give you an idea, last year when i was there during monsoon, i didn't even visit the beach

We basically hit the road after a heavy breakfast, drive around the whole of goa and stop every other hour and drink, drink, drink, eat, eat, eat and then come back to hotel at 4pm and spend time in the pool ( again with the help of some beers) and then evening head out to Tito's/Vanilla Lounge/Mambo's .

Surprisingly, when we went there at 1:00AM, it was jam-packed ( some un-season, that was) and went to the casino at 4:00 AM and back to hotel at 6:30 AM ( 5* hotel in Panjim) forgetting the name.

Btw, AFAIK, Club Cabana is closed for GOOD.

If i am on a trip with friends, during the long weekend, i typically get a consolidated sleep of 12-18 hours maximum. We are out from 8:30AM to 4:00 AM ( next morning).

If its with wifey, then i prefer the lazing type of a holiday ( books, beer, swimming pool, beach et.all)
