What google doesn't calculates is state of the road! Did you consider Shiradi state also while calculating the time? What is your requirement? |

Apart from that, you can go to Karkala via Ujire -> Belthangdi. This is route is shorter than going till Uppinangadi, however I am not sure how good road between Ujire and NH48. |

While the CKM route has more ghats, it is very soothing on the mind thanks to the views. Also, there is very little traffic and no heavy trucks to deal with. |

Given that I am going to Maravanthe, does it make sense to go via Haladi/Vandse and turn in towards NH17 OR does it make sense to go to Udupi via Hebri and then go North on NH17? |

Charmadi is in good condition, except for 3-4 Hairpin curves. I had taken my CIVIC to Dharmasthala from Mudigere, I had no issues at all. Good thing is some of the rough patches were getting repaired 15 days back. |

No, you can avoid CKM if you want to take the shortest route. But I prefer going via CKM because of better lunch options. The planter's court at CKM is one of the finest restaurants.:D |

And what would the shortest route be? Via Gendehalli? If yes, what would be the distance I save and would it be worth it? I do not intend to have lunch at C'lur. |

I reckon I do not need to go via Barsur. I plan to take left at 13.692357,74.760675 (GPS coordinates). Let me know what you think. |

The shortest is not necessarily the fastest. You might save a few Kms, that's all. |

That should do fine, you are turning well before Vandse. Don't try these routes in the night, very easy to lose way, very few sign boards. |

Don't fully depend on GPS either, both satguide and MMI maps are inaccurate for most south Karnataka roads. |
