Yes, you missed the best route to Madikeri . The route through Konanur is bad. You should have taken Arakalagud - Shanivarasante - Somawarapete - Madikeri. Excellent roads till Madikeri. Distance is same as that of Konanur - Kushalnagar route.

I plan to drive to Vandse this weekend. Could you help me with this route? Where should I take the diversion from the State highway to avoid Shimoga?

Bumping up this thread - can someone tell me the condition of Madikeri - Jalsoor stretch of SH88. Is the roadworks done or still on?

Madikeri - Jalsoor is almost done. Only a very small portion near a bridge is under construction.

Never heard that it's closed in the night.
There is a forest checkpost barrier before sunset point (before you get down the ghats towards Someshwara) but I haven't seen this being manned/operated.

Yeah. It wasn't closed. Crossed Agumbe Ghat around 2 am ! Was a superb drive.

Had pinged Samurai in between to check on route options though.

Started at 8 pm IST and reached Kundapur at 4 am IST. This also included a quick pit stop at Kamat Channrayapatna.

Took Arasikere-NH206-NH65-Agumbe-Kundapur.

Google Maps doesn't suggest this route at all if you enter Kundapur as your destination. It was Agumbe that I entered first and used Option 2 ( via NH206) as per Amperes route.

@Ampere , there is a place Ampara on the way . Any connection to your handle :X ?

The turnoff to SH65 is easy to miss for someone like me who was doing this for this first time. Google Maps helped. After that it was a really awesome drive from SH65 till Agumbe via NH13.

Almost zero traffic but encountered some fog on NH13.

Overall , a superb drive on good old 2 laned roads after ages. Somehow , I am not confident of doing similar timings during daytime. Will drive back via Mangalore - Puttur- channrayapatna.
Another advantage of zero traffic and well laid roads was my FE

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

I need to drop a relative at Udupi and head to Mangalore tomorrow. As I understand from the above posts, Agumbe route looks good to Udupi. So the exact route from Arasikere to Udupi is as marked in this map right? - https://goo.gl/maps/EJKJm

How is Udupi - Mangalore? My relative won't mind if I drop him in Mangalore and ask him to take a bus to Udupi . So how is the NH-13 between Koppa - Sringeri - Moodabidri - Mangalore?

No thats not the route. Here is the modified one:

Modified Route

You dont have to go to Koppa. Exit for Mandagadde on SH65 and head to Thirthahalli. Then take the fantastic SH1 to Agumbe and there to Someshwar, Hebri and Udupi.

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Folks,

From what point in/after Sakleshpur is NH48 closed for renovation? Can I travel upto Anemahal (coming from Bangalore) and take the Mudigere road?

Thanks in advance...

Yes you can. The road is blocked from Manjarabad fort onwards where the Hethur-Bisle road deviates from the NH. Although the road is blocked here, you can travel upto Maranahalli if you can give a valid reason to the person manning the gate.

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Guys, i am doing BLR-Udupi this Friday and from what i read and understand https://maps.google.co.in/maps?ll=13...lassic&dg=ntvb is still the best route option. I plan to start from Vidyaranyapura, North Bangalore at 5 in the morning. I would be past Swathi or Mayur for my breakfast options. Anything that i can look out for in Arasikere. And what are my options post Arasikere for breaks. I am travelling with family, so any decent places would be most welcome
