Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

When we take the charmady route for M'lore, the stretch between Guruvayanakere > BC Road is in shambles coz of road widening.

Are there any other better alternatives for this stretch, for someone traveling to M'lore?

Belthangady to Uppinangadi is the option, is definitely better if you want to avoid the WIP section between Guruvayanakere and BC Road cross. This will be 50Km from Belthangady to BC road via Uppinangady and around 75 minutes. If You were to do direct Guruvayanakere to BC road, it will be 10 Km shorter and may save you around 15-20 minutes. Take your pick.

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Travelled from Mangalore to Bangalore via Shiradi yesterday. Happy to note that there is a fresh layer of tar after BC Road and work is in progress. Hopefully the roads will be done until start of the concrete section. Overall, road in decent shape now, except for the short stretch of about 20 kms before Hassan Bypass, where we would need to navigate between some partially completed concrete stretches.

Fingers crossed, the road would stay good until the next monsoon.

You can refer my post on the options here.
I am headed to Kapu this Saturday, would be taking the first route, even Google suggests the same: Charmadi - Ujire - Belthangady - Guruvayanakere - Naravi - Bajagoli - Karkala - Nitte - Belman - Padubidre - Udupi

Can you share some lunch options between Hassan to Kapu and good petrol bunks.

Few OK places at Ujire and Belthangady. After this you are pretty much closer to destination and it doesn't make sense to venture into Karkala town either.

Halli Mane, Ujire

Kamadhenu, Ujire

Hotel Sapna, Ujire. (This will be around 500 meters of detour towards Dharmasthala from Ujire circle)

Each of these places are just OK. Nothing great to talk about. But are definitely your SoS break points for food and snacks. Halli Mane and Sapna are better among the list above.

Hotel Vijaya Bhavan is really a better place among all of these suggested above but at Pudubidri. Not a bad choice if you want to take a grub here and then reach your destination that should be less than 45 mins from here.

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Need to drive to Udupi and i want to avoid Uppinangadi-mangalore traffic

Which is the better option below (faster and smoother road condition)
1. Shiradi - ujire-karkala-udupi
2. Charmadi - ujire-karkala-udupi

Option 2 will give you better tarmac. Option may be slightly faster but I feel both will take similar time from my own experiences.

Honestly. You will be faster on Charmadi because:
- You will take lesser time reach Belur and cross than what you will take to reach Sakleshpur and cross it
- Belur to Ujire, a distance of 90 Km can actually be done in 1.5-2 hours while Sakleshpur to Ujire via Gundya-Dharmasthala will take longer due to road and traffic too

Did option-2 yesterday. It was a breeze with very less traffic and almost smooth tarmac (except for few short diversions where construction of bridges is happening).

I drive down from Chennai to Bangalore this evening. I will be driving from Bangalore to Udipi tomorrow morning.

Based on the recent recommendations, I will try the Bangalore - Hassan - Charmadi- Ujire-karkala- Udipi route.

Charmadi is one of the beautiful ghats. You will enjoy the drive. You can even consider a stop at Mudbidre which has a famous 1000 Pillars Jain Basadi which is worth visiting.

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Hello,

i may need to do a Puttur Bangalore run on the next weekend.. Which route would be ideal ?

1. Puttur-Narimogaru-Kaniyoor-Kulkunda-Bisle-Arkalgud-CRP-BLR (G-Maps is showing this as an option) - Not sure of the road conditions.

or

2. Puttur-Sampaje-Madikeri-Arkalgud-CRP-BLR

I will be starting from Puttur around 4 pm and by the time i reach Bisle, i would be dark i suppose. is there any forest gate there and is traffic allowed thro Bisle after nightfall ?

I will be driving an i20 with family -including senior citizens.

Sincerely will be happy to know the thoughts of the regulars who frequently drive this section.

Thanks in advance !!
