2 ways to go to Aldur from Belur
1 Belur - Chikmagalur-Aldur
2 Belur - Gendehally -Haandhi -Aldur
the first road is smooth all the way till aldur
2nd is a bit narrow road(sinlge lane) and bumpy too.
I would suggest the first route

Chikmagalur - Aldur -Balehonnur-Jayapura-Sringeri

1 Sringeri -Agumbe-Hebri-Manipal-Udupi
Take this road as it's very much short when compared with the other route
2. Sringeri - Kudremukha-Karakala-Udupi. This route is bit long
Hope this clears your doubt

I am planning a trip to Bekal fort near kasargod with family. I have read that road via madikeri to mangalore is good. Can anyone tell me the condition of the road from madikeri via sulya to Kasargod? Anyother better way of reaching Bekal from Bangalore?

Any recommendation for a good hotel in mangalore to stay - reasonable and with car park.

How is the roads from Kasargod to Udupi?

Hotel Woodlands recommended with car park and on the highway.

I feel the shortest route would be
Udupi-Karkala-Guruvayankere-Ujire-Dharmasthala-Sakleshpura-Hassan-Blr
But the condition of the road between Dharmasthala and sakelshpura is not in good condition.
But the road i would suggest you in Udupi-i-Agumbe-Sringeri-Balehonnur-Chikmagalur-Belur-Hassan-BLR, coz the road condition is good , but due to winding roads travel time may be increased to a certain extent, but it will definetely be very much enjoyable

From what i know, woodlands is in the heart of the city (bunts hostel road to be precise). You can find umpteen hotels on the highway.Hotel pentagon is there right on the pumpwell circle corner.

Yes, the belur - aldur route is not recommended. It is a single road which is ridden with potholes. Better take the Belur-Chikmagalur-Aldur road. Belur to Chikmagalur is a breeze and you can cover it in 15 min. Chikmagalur to Aldur road is bad until you take deviation from the Mudigere road towards Aldur. The distance may be more by just a few kms (read single digit) and also it is faster. From Aldur you have to take Balehonnur-Jayapura-Sringeri route.

Secondly you have to do Sringeri - Agumbe - Udupi. The roads are good until Manipal.
Sringeri -Karkala route is longer. I'm not sure about the road conditions as I have not travelled there recently.
If you specifically want to go via karkala, you can take Belur-Mudigere-Kottigehara-Kalasa-Kudremukh-Karkala-Manipal route.

laluks, Mangalore - Udupi stretch is pretty decent took this road day before yesterday.

As Maruru mentioned Karavalli is a nice option also their is one more opposite to it forgot the name, else inside Udupi "Pnacharatna Paradise" even this is an decent option.

In Mangalore you can try "Ayodhya" this is near PVR circle

Shiradi update

Just back from Mangalore, i took about 5hrs 15 mins from pumpwell circle to Nelamangla.

The road condition is quiet good leaving about 20 kms of bad stretch in the ghat, repar work is going on and am sure within 15-20days most of the bad patches would be fixed.

Over all Shiradi has become doable again.

SO all "Shuba vidayalu Kudla" Happy journey ( Mangalore

Woodlands falls between bunts circle and Jyothi circle, this is one busy road and is in the heart of the city.

Getting into city might be quiet confusing, Staying at Udupi would be much feasible.

Weather,

Last 1 week the weather was quiet bad, very humid and hot...atleast of what i have known this time around its quiet bad....but i guess would have rained today...

Did Mangalore to Hornadu last week, took diversion from "Padubidre" to Karkala - Kudremukha - Kalsa - Hornadu, the road to Sringeri is very narrow and its gets tricky when you have lots of oncoming traffic es trucks and buses...

Would like to caution everyone here, Kalsa to Karkala is very tempting which can lead to overspedding i spotted abot 4 bad accidents on my way back...so i would suggest people to drive easy and slow...enjoy the nature!

Please read as the above road condition as good..

Right on lohith!!.

I had been to Dharmasthala yesterday and i was surprised (and happy) to see Shiradi patched up. Even saw a KSRTC volvo on the route.

I don't think the bad stretch is about 20 kms. It should not be more than 6-8 kms. Since it is in the ghats, even a small stretch will seem longer (especially if the road is bad).
There are a few places where you still have to be very careful regarding the underbellies of your cars, but overall, the route is very doable.

I'm just hoping that these patches can take on the additional traffic (diverted from Charmadi) and last till the rains. Otherwise, it will be back to hell during the rains.

@lohith-5hrs 15 min to nelamangala is pretty good time. What car do you drive?
