What would be the drive time from Bangalore to Shimoga. I travelled on this route this summer but completely forgotten how long it took me to Shimoga :-)
Around 5 hours from Bangalore - Shimoga.
Most of the time I reach Shimoga within 4.5hrs in my car with a stopover @ CCD-Dobbespete.

re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Thanks everyone for help , Just when everything was planned ARSS informed that they arrange program for 12-15 ppl usually. Mr Gowri Shankar agreed for 5 ppl but then I could gather just 3 including myself so trip stands canceled.
So my plan to meet the king is deferred until there is a big enough group.

Two routes!

1) Bangalore->Kunigal -> Hasan -> Belur -> Chikmaglur -> Sringeri -> Agumbe -> Someshwara -> Hebri - Halady -> Basrur -> Kundapura

2) Bangalore -> Thumkur -> Shimoga -> Thirthahalli -> Agumbe -> Someshwara -> Hebri - Halady -> Basrur -> Kundapura.

Between Chikmaglur & Sringeri you will find roads in bad condition. Same is case between Thirathalli & Agumbe.

The Road condition between Bangalore to Tirthahalli/Shivamogga is very good.

Take a look at my reponse on Bangalore - Kollur therad for details.

Thanks RaguHolla. I have taken #1 last year and would want to try a different one now. Might try #2.

How about Bangalore - Hassan - Dharmastala - Ujjire - Moodbidri - Mulki - Udupi - Kundapura?

Any flipsides other than the dreaded Shiradi ghats?

Yes, why would you want to go to Kundapura via Mulki? After Ujire, go via Naravi-Bajagoli-Karkala-Udupi-Kundapura.

Thanks Samurai. I understand that I need not go via Moodbidri to get to Karkala from Ujjire. Is that correct?

Also, any -ves for this route other than the devastated Shiradi Ghats?

re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Nope,the roads are pretty good starting from the diversion which takes you into Dharmastala.
I guess if you take this route mentioned below,you exit at Katapadi junction(Very near to Udupi) and then hit NH17 to Kundapur.

What route to Mangalore for an Hyundai i10?

Guys, i know so much has been written already on the route to M'lore. Need help in suggesting a best route to a neighbour, who is relocating to M'lore city. Have to mention that it's his wife who's usually behind the wheels of their Hyundia i10. They plan to do the drive by themselves, and i'm perplexed, in trying not to suggest the Shiradi route, keeping their small car in mind.

Comments please, regarding a viable route, keeping distance, and hence travel time as a prime factor.

Thanks in advance!

re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

^^ My cousin did Shiradi Ghat last week, he took 1.5 hours to clear the stretch in his Wagon R.

Any information on when the annual patchwork ritual is happening on Shiradi Ghat ? Will plan my next trip accordingly.
