re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Maybe mid 2013, work progress is very slow...

Btw people need to take care on Surathkal flyover, can find lots of idiots from opposite use it.

re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Hi Folks,

Just wanted to know if they have started charging the toll in the Nelamangala to Bellur Cross stretch. Last I heard that they would start from June onwards. Any updates on this?

Also how has the latest Monsoon session succeeded in deteriorating the Sakleshpur to Gundya stretch ?

Hope that the road does not justify the name of the thread this time round again.

As per udayavani, soon 4lane between Hassan and BC road will begin, however this plan which needs to be approved and all.

If this thing happens about 140hecter of forest land needs to be procured which means lots of trees wil go...:(

If you were asking about the LANCO toll, they are still in data collection mode. No charges were levied during my last trip on 14th June 2012.

Ghat road sections are still holding up pretty well...Most probably due to low amount of rains so far and decrease in mining truck traffic...

According to one booth operator, toll will be levied from 15th July. He did not mention how much though.

Toll collection has started on the first toll booth after Nelamangala (towards Hassan). I just passed through the toll where there was a huge line of vehicles. It was a huge mess though. I don't think anyone was ready to pay toll as I heard a lot of people arguing with toll booth attendants.

I don't remember how much the toll rates were as I was sitting inside a bus. I had a quick glance at a board showing rates and saw that it was Rs.39 for cars but don't know if it is for a one way or a two way ticket. If it is for one way though, I think it is pretty expensive.

The toll booth before Bellur cross is not collecting toll yet IIRC.

re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Wait, they were not collecting tolls yesterday. That means it started today???

The toll for the car is Rs.33 in both Nelamangala and Bellur cross toll booths. I wondered when they will start since the price has been put up.

People can be really dumb, how is arguing with toll collectors will help? They didn't make the rules. Most of us have been using the 4-lane roads since a year or more. The toll booth is under test since 6 month. So, it was bound to happen some day. So why the shock?

Completely agree with you. The toll booth did not come overnight, it has been there from quite some time.

People need to protest only if the toll price is unreasonable. If Nelamangala to Tumkur outskirts cost 29-30, 33 for Nelamangala to Bellur cross is reasonable. There is nothing to be shocked about this.

re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

They have started collecting toll since yesterday.
Drove on Friday evening, it was a free ride.
Today morning I paid 33 Rs (devihalli - Kunigal ) & 33 Rs (kunigal-Nelmangala)
Total 66Rs in Total.
I thought 33rs is all the way till Nelmangala, at nelamngala had to pay another 33Rs .

I still think it is a tad expensive given that the toll at the second booth is also the same. I am guessing that may be 2 more toll booths will come up between Bellur cross and Hassan and if it the same rate, the toll itself will go more than 100 rs

True, I guess people were not expecting this 'shock' so 'suddenly'

Even the driver of the bus I was traveling in was surprised.

re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

I am planning to drive to Udupi this weekend (6/29), would like to know few things to plan my trip timings,

a) How is the monsoon getting along? Bangalore is hot now a days and no rain or what soever, wondering how does it look like in costal areas and ghats.

b) I will be driving with kids, which route is safer in case it rains in ghat section?

TIA...

Lots of rain here. Manipal feels like a hill station. Didn't need the AC and it was down right chilly at night.

re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

I'm off to Surathkal next week. I stay in Nagarbavi, by the way. Since it is close to Magadi Road, I take the Sunkadakatte - Magadi Town - Kunigal - Mangalore route.

For me, does it make sense to continue taking the above route OR should I try the Nagarbavi - Tumkur Road - Elevated Flyover - Nelamangala - Kunigal route?

Which route will be faster, on a Saturday, at around 10:00 AM?
