Mine is a 4x4 Safari too. Im driving to Leh from Mumbai late Sept. Adc is driving from Kolkata too around the same dates. We do plan to meetup and do quite a few sections together. Approx 10 days in the mountains. Do PM me or Adc if you intend to join in. Mind you its tricky weather at that time. Our dates are confirmed and subject to change only by ' acts of God'.
End june to july is peak tourist season i guess.
As for Tata covering it in the media, Il be glad if they just foot the damages.
Cheers,
J

Hi Abhiknov, Am planning to do Mumbai Leh in my Indica next June/July. Could you please give details of your Indica Leh trip that would assist me in my trip. What special preparations that you had to undertake, any modifications that you did. Would appreciate a detailed report. Thank you.

I would love to drive all the way to Leh. But I am in Madras. That is a long way off.

Same here. Bangalore is too far and I do not want to drive such long distances. But I am looking at other alternatives to go during June or July.

Leh 2011 - May/June - Trip Planner

Hey guys, Ive been on this forum for awhile, not a avid poster but i do read now and then to keep intouch with motoring in india. I am Living and working in England but i do make an annual trip to india. I own a Royal enfield at the moment and as my sole possesion in Goa is my freedom for one month a year. Next June i plan on riding up north but with time constraints. I have two weeks worth of holidays and riding from Goa - Manali via delhi does not seem to make sense. Looked at shipping bike via train to chandigarh which departs every sunday from margao, goa. Looked at shipping it via truck to delhi. Yet again the costs dont seem to make sense and the not soo great reviews by those who send their bikes on trains. On the other hand looked at renting a bike in delhi, can anyone give me the lowdown on this? Possible costs for 14 day bike rental? I have read they ask for a deposit worthy of the bike, aka 40 thousand rupees. My entire trip including the flight to delhi will cost 40 grand and knowing india i do not trust 40k in rupees with someone who will state on return of the bike that a million parts are missing, even though the bike possibly was missing most parts anyway. I received a few quotes via phone( i blocked my number so as to receive a fair quote) They gave me and average quote of 16 thousand for 14 days for a 350cc Bullet enfield. I am doing this trip with a few friends from india and a few from england and would like to know the best way to do this. My enfield is in fairly good condition, 5000 kms covered and as good as new. Only problem being riding up to delhi should take me 3 days up and 3 days down which leaves me with 7 days of being up north in the mountains. If i can get off from delhi id save those 6 days for a more enjoyable trip.

I'm hoping I'll have the THAR with HT and AC by then. Most probably will be driving alone as wifey is not interested for an encore.

But I'm planning to go around September after the season ends. Don't want to pay high season prices.

Having done the trip last year with HVK, I think I can say what the following is a comprehensive list of what you require for the trip
Checklist of items to carry
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...EE&hl=en#gid=0
Checklist for cars going to Ladakh
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...FE&hl=en#gid=1

Ah! This is interesting. I am planning next year "again", but this time with parents and family. Hopefully in June or in September.
