Re: 4-Laning Work starts in Avinashi-Coimbatore stretch of NH47

I have covered this stretch last week and havent seen any work being overtaken. Though it's been undertaken, I didnt see any actual workers there. This stretch is a nightmare, since the bus drivers are pretty rash and overtake at each and every blind curves.

Palakkad-Thrissur stretch is fine but expect bumpy rides since the roads arent completely redone. Just some patch works which really took a toll on my back since I drive on low profile rubbers.

Re: 4-Laning Work starts in Avinashi-Coimbatore stretch of NH47

I am planning to go to Munnar sometime next month from Hyderabad via Devanahalli (NH207) merging at Hosur and continue on NH7 and NH47 upto Avinashi and then diversion towards Palladam.. Could you guys confirm / clarify that 4 lane roads are there upto Avinashi all the way from Hosur. I dont want to take smaller roads as much possible to cover up some time. Please throw high beam here

Thanks,
Raghu Lakshman

HVK's post on by-passing NH7 from Devanahalli to Attibele.
Its not NH207 all the way, but combination of NH207, BIAL Road and SH35 (Varthur road).

I have put all Bangalore Bypass options into the following thread

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...bangalore.html

For Munnar you can exit at Perundurai. As per what I hear from folks, getting out of Avinashi and Tiruppur would be really painful. Perundurai-Kangeyam-Dharapuram-Udumalpet is a better option.

+1. Perundurai-Udumalpet is the best option to reach Munnar. And also, you can bypass Salem by taking diversion at Thoppur after Dharmapuri and you can reach Perundurai via Mettur and Bhavani.

Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Mettur - Bhavani - Perundurai - Munnar.

@Ramesh, As per what people have been telling, after the 4L is complete its not very advantageous to take the Mettur route now. The 4L through Salem is fast today and with by-passes in places, it does not take much time to go past the city.

On top of it, truck traffic on the Mettur road has also increased.

Re: 4-Laning Work starts in Avinashi-Coimbatore stretch of NH47

Thanks guys. So I can take 4 lane all the way till Perundurai. Proceed towards Dharapuram, Udumulapettai to reach Munnar. Hope roads are better as its summer there. Will keep you posted if need any specific information around that area.

Thanks,
Raghu Lakshman

Once I had tried the Hogenakkal route to Mettur via Anchetty/Pennagaram/Macheri. On the way back, I took the regular Mettur Thoppur route. I was amazed at the amount of trucks on this section. I then thought all these guys took that route to save the toll money! But I am not sure.

PS: Plus you get good hotels in Salem for a break ! (On the Highway)

I never tried the Anchetty/Pennagaram route. I always take the Thoppur/Macheri/Mettur route to reach Coimbatore/Ooty. Yes. I am sure that truck guys take this route to save the toll. There is one toll at Omalur and I don't know about the no. of tolls between Salem-Bhavani.

It was only meant for fun and not for serious drive. The roads were broken all over in one section, and it was quite difficult. But yes the fun of finding a new road was always there.

Here is the account, which got me on to it.

Last week, on my drive to cochin, just for a change, I took the perundurai > kangeyam > palladam > sulur > L&T bypass road. Railway overbridge in perundurai is complete and hence one less headache.

Thanks very much. That is really good news! In case closed gate, one would easily loose up to 20 minutes in that section. Will try it some time soon! Thanks again.
