Honeymoon Destination dilemma.

Hi All,

I urgently need help on this. Where should I go for honeymoon?

I have a few basic thoughts in mind, as follows:

1. No Bangkok / Thailand / Singapore
2. Budget : ~ 3 - 3.5 for both including airfare.
3. Duration : 4 - 6 days of stay.
4. Not much of travel in the destination place.
5. Destination should be Scenic/Calm/Peaceful.

Dates that I am planning for is between Sep 27th, 2014 to Oct 5th, 2014.

I am on a very tight budget and have a very short time in hand.
This is increasing my confusion and playing with my unstable mind.

Please help me decide where should I take my wife..!!

I am thinking about Bali, Greece, Maldives - Sri Lanka.. All Confused..!!

Suggestion, ideas, destinations, hotels..??

I would add one more exotic destination in your list. It is Seychelles Islands in Indian ocean. Nothing beats the clean and serene beaches of Seychelles. You both will enjoy to the core.

So, plan and book ticket. Yes, I must say for honeymoon etc. do not plan much. Just decide place and book ticket.

Well if you really want a great peaceful honeymoon, head to the beautiful Andamans.

Had my honeymoon here and it was sheer bliss.

To further add to the spice, you could do a cruise from Kolkata or Chennai to Andamans and dont miss out on the Havlock Islands once you reach there.

You could book into ITC Fortune and take a glass bottom boat to Vandoor Islands, excursion to the tribal areas of Jharwas and spend some great moments snorkeling/scuba diving.

Feel patriotic and proud at the Cellular Jail and in short have a whale of a time!!

re: Honeymoon Destination dilemma.

For 3-3.5 you can go to Gstaad, Switzerland. Would have lots of snow during that time i suppose.
Even if the flight costs a 1L in total, you can cover the tour in the remaining money and Europe is well worth it !!! Switz is relaxing, don't need any package tours you can plan it on your own(which adds a bit of fun i guess). You can visit Juangfraujoc , the tallest mountain in Switz or go in the famed Glacier express.

re: Honeymoon Destination dilemma.

IT's a honeymoon man, why not somewhere exotic within India itself? A place with pristine private beaches or perhaps somewhere transcendentally scenic like Ladakh/Shimla.
The idea of a honeymoon the way I see it, is for each of the newlyweds to get to know each other, everything else is just filler.

People tend to go out of the country to admire beauty when there is so much of it to be found in India just a little off the beaten path.

You could do a trip to Sri Lanka or stay in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, those are lovely too. I say this from the perspective of being relatively frugal as well. All the cash you save on a meaningful albeit non expensive honeymoon, is also the cash you will have in hand to spend in the course of your married life.

Going to exotic locales doesn't always have to translate into excellent holidays.

Will post more if you're keen on it, will ask a friend who went to the Andamans a while back.

Good luck with your decision
Ang.

I would suggest Havelock in Andamans. Explore Radhanagar and Elephanta Beach. Also nowadays you have Seaplanes to reach Havelock I guess. It will reduce your travel time to a great extent.

Take her to a honeymoon.

The destination does not matter its thee company that matters.

You are from Mumbai. Any where in the northeast will be great and well within your budget. The north of India is nice too.

check the Neemrana group of hotels I find them great for a relaxed holiday.
http://glasshouse-on-the-ganges.neemranahotels.com/
or : http://www.thehimalayanvillage.in/
or:http://www.elginhotels.com/DOCS/kalimpong.php

Remember this is your honeymoon and it should be the most memorable trip of your life, This is the beginning of a lifelong relationship.

Do you want to be stressed with travel preparations, documentation and Forex issues? The world is available for these adventurers any time.

It is your honeymoon discuss with your partner about what does she enjoy and plan accordingly.

There will be shopping.. WILL BE SHOPPING. and your certainly don't want to constrain that. Go to a place that is at least 50% of your budget so that you have enough left to enjoy the finer things.

Just my thoughts.

Regards
RoS

re: Honeymoon Destination dilemma.

My advice:
  1. Since you have budgeted only 6 days, dont waste it on a foreign trip
  2. Go to a local quiet destination like Goa or Kerala or Himachal & just chill out.
  3. Take your foreign trip after a few months when the two of you have gotten closer, will be far more fun then

Congrats & enjoy the journey!

re: Honeymoon Destination dilemma.

I just have to add how heart warming it is to see that people are recommending places within India as opposed to outside the country.
It makes me feel really happy. I realize this has no place on this thread by way of being off topic, but cheers.

@rulerofsun, Neemrana is superb, have stayed at a few of their places, and it is just absolutely worth it.

re: Honeymoon Destination dilemma.

I would definitely recommend this nook right at Heavens Door: The Misty Mountain Retreat, Jhaltola, Pithodagarh, Kumaon.. Read about it here
And yes, the budget is way too much for this place - but it has better views than Switzerland's Interlaken , and very very homely.

re: Honeymoon Destination dilemma.

@imahunter - As others have said already, you don't have to go abroad and spend a load of cash, save that up for later. Instead, splurge at some of the awesome places in India itself, it will be well worth it. Something like Taj Vivanta, Dal Lake or some other heritage properties like Neemrana hotels.

Here's wishing you a very happy married life
