In my view following in clock wise or anti clock wise would be the best route.

Bangalore - Mysore - Madikeri - Kukke - Dharmasthala - Horanadu - Shringeri- Udupi - Kollur- take NH 17 to Karwar - Return back to Gokarn - Sirsi - Jog - Shimoga - Chikmagalur - Belur - Halebidu - Hassan- Shravanabelagola - Bangalore

- Bangalore-Mysore-Kushalnagar-Medikeri
- Medikeri-Somwarpet-Kukke (Via Bisle)
- Kukke-Dharmastala
- Dharmastala-Kotegahara-Kalasa/Horanadu/Kudremukh (KHK)
- KHK-Sringeri
- Then on to Udupi via Karkala
- Udupi-Murdeshwar-Gokarana-Karwar.
- Back from Karwar-Ankola-Yellapur-Sirsi-Jog/Sagar
- Sagar-Shimoga-Thirthahalli-Koppa-Balehonnur-CKM (Or alternatively via Kadur)
- CKM-Belur-Halebid-Hassan-Shravanabelagola and then Back to Bangalore.

The only bad part I see in this whole is plan is to be forced to take the NH17.

EDIT: @Star do we think alike?

You can put in these as PoI in google maps and you will get the route
The key roads are

BLR-Mysore : Mysore Road
Mysore- Madikeri : Via Hunsur
Udupi-Kollur-Murudeshwara-Gokarna-Karwar : by NH17
Turn to Sirsi is between Kumta and Gokarna Cross on NH17
Jog Falls to Shimoga is NH206
Hassan-Shravanabelagola-Bangalore is NH48

You will also go through Agumbe Ghat (Shringeri to Udupi), Devimane Ghat (on way Sirsi), probably one more ghat (Kudremukh ?) on way from Dharmasthala to Horanadu-Sringeri.

EDIT : @ ampere : as you are "electric" you think better and faster than me (:-)

Do take a look at this website, it gives detailed information about the temples, apart from "how to reach" and "where to stay" kind of information

Temples of Karnataka - Art, Architecture, History of Ganga, Kadamba, Calukya, Rashtrakuta, Hoysala, Vijayanagara, Tulunadu, Nolamba, Dravidian Temples of Karnataka

Please remember that Madikeri-Sulya-Subramanya (shortest) route is closed due to repairs on Sampage ghat.
The Bisle ghat route suggested is in a bad shape, hence the only feasible route is Madikeri-Somwarpet-Sakleshpura-Gundya-Subramanya.

NH17 is a total write-off from Kundapura to Honavar, especially around Bhatkal.

I suggested Bisle only because the Sulya road was closed. Also knew Bisle is in bad shape, but I think its the shortest.

I am not at all electric! Just Static!

FYI, for true believers, as a tradition, Kukke should be the last place to visit. You're not supposed to visit any other place after visiting Kukke.

Shravanabelagola - Horanadu - Sringeri - Kollur - Murudeshwara- Gokarna - retrace to Murudeshwara - Udupi - Kateelu - Dharmasthala - Kukke - Bangalore

If Bisle is bad and Sulya is closed then why through Madikeri ??

This circle maybe better

Seems OK to me. You can add Kalasa along with Horanadu.

This looks to me like a reconnessance trip to me.I dont think you have factored time to visit the places and savour them. You need atleast two hours in Shravana Belgola as you have to climb the hill and to see other nearby places . Similarly keep another two hours for Belur and Halebidu. I am not sure whether you want to see Belur and Halebidu - not clear from your itenararay - which i think you should. Belgola to Horanadu is cool five hours as you will be driving in Ghats. An another one and half hour to Sringeri from there. So calculate the time and you seem to be packing too much. Same applies to otherdays as well. I strongly recommend you to revise your itenarary if you want a good driving holiday.

Best Regards

Hey Guys,

Thanks, I exactly got what I was looking for. I'm planning for this trip on my Polo during second week of december.

Bangalore -> Sringeri
Sringeri -> Kollur Kollur -> Kundapur (will do it if I have time, otherwise it will be from Sringeri to Kundapur)
Kundapur -> Dharmasthala
Dharmasthala -> Kukke
Kukke -> Bangalore (is it advisable to do it via Madikeri or somvarpet or ?)

So considering the following departures and destinations, what roads are advisable?

cheers,
Laxminarayan
