Hello Travellers!

We are planning for a road trip from Ahmedabad to Thrissur this month. Wanted to know about the road conditions mainly out of Gujarat, which roads to take and which ones to discard, Any scenic roads would be highly appreciated.

It'll be great if we can get some advice & suggestions for the route.

Cheers

High Level Summary:

1. AMD - Pune
2. Pune - BLR
3. BLR - Trichur.

The last leg you can do via Nilambur to get some good scenery or there there is standard (BLR-Salem-CBE-Palakad-Trchur via 7/47).

Pune-BLR is covered in the Bombay-BLR thread.
Pune-AMD others can connect on the road status.

I am curious, are you doing it in the Conty? If yes, theres a Conty Club in Blore, and they would be thrilled to see a conty from AMD doing such a long drive!

Like Amp mentioned, the route is pretty straight forward:

AMD-Pune:13hours/Road conditions excellent, except from Vapi till Ghodbunder

Pune-Blr:Excellent conditions again,approx 13hrs of drive

BLR-TCR:Take BLR-Salem-Coimbatore-Palakkad-Ottapalam-Shornur-Wadakancheri-Thrissur.Do not take the conventional NH47 from Palakkad to Thrissur as it is totally potholed at the moment.

Dude,

I did a road trip in sept across North Karnatake and goa. 13 hrs to Pune is too much. We did Pune Surat in 6.5 hours and another 3.5 for Surat to Ahmedabad. If you plan your travel wisely you could cover that travel well in proper time line. Please note that the roads after Valsad are not in its best of conditions right now due to on going fly over works all along. Roads from A'bad to Valsad are goo all along.

You can then take the diversion towards pune via navi mumbai instead of going into Mumbai. From the Hotel Fountain junction you can take a left and follow signs for Navi Mumbai / Panvel / Pune.

After Pune we drove along the NH to Kolhapur and further down. The roads there were excellent. More info on my road trip

I would prefer to go via Bombay, route is much more simpler and faster, and entirely on 4-laned roads. Going from Surat via Pune is not a great option for new travellers in the region.

Ahmedabad-Baroda is fantastic as also the next stretch to Surat. South of Surat, roads are being widened from 4 to 6 lanes, but disruption is not much. Traffic after Vapi can be high, but no problems as such. Bypassing Bombay through Thane & Airoli is also simple.
