My friend is planning for a 7 to 8 day trip along with wife and a small kid.
He will be riding in his Ritz VDI.

He has finalized on the following route:

Panvel-Tuljapur-Akkalkot-Hampi-Saundatti-Kolhapur-Ratnagiri-Panvel

Key concerns are:

1. Best route to take
2. Road conditions
3. Places to visit
4. Budget Overnight Stays (considering family)

To Tuljapur:
NH-9 via Pune to Solapur, and then to Tuljapur.

Tuljapur - Akkalkot:
via Solpaur, towards Akkalkot

Akkalkot - Hampi:
Akkalkot - Solapur - Bijapur - Hospet - Hampi (all on NH-13)
Roads are bad a little as you approach Hospet.

Alternative here is :
After Hungund on NH-13, take left towards Mudgal. At Mudgal, turn right on SH-29 upto Gangawati. From there, ask for Hampi. But will help if you can speak Kannada.

Hampi- Saundatti:
Hampi - Hospet - Hubli - Dharwad - Saundatti
Hospet to Hubli - NH63. Road is Bad.
Hubli - Dharwad - ask for directions : avoid the by-pass. It is much longer, so stay inside the city. Stick to 40 kmph between the two cities. You never know when the interceptor is doing duty.
Dharwad - Saundatti - SH65. Road is now good.

Saundatti - Kolhapur:
Saundatti - Manoli - Yargatti - take left towards Belgaum. From Belgaum, it's easy to Kolhapur.
Saundatti - Manoli /Yargatti : you will not come back into Saundatti town, but you will head the other direction. Manoli is also spelt as "Munavalli"
Roads upto Belgaum are decent.

Thanks for the updates. Just got update from HVK Sir as well and the roads are indded bad. Considering that the kid is only 5 years old and road issues are there any other good options for a 8 day road trip?

@Condor, thanks for the updates. Actually he is now rethinking over the plan coz of his 5 year old kid.
