Do you recommend doing Hyd to Badami as well via Bijapur instead of Hyd - Raichur - Lingsugur - Hungund - Gudur route ?

Re: Hyderabad - Badami - Bijapur loop

I did a Hyderabad-Badami-Hyderabad drive last week.

Route information:
Hyderabad - Mahabubnagar - Raichur - Linigsugur - Badami. : Approx 430km.
Returned by same route, but took an hour less.

Road Conditions: After the turn towards Mahabubnagar from expressway, the road conditions slightly worsened. After Raichur, it worsened further and the last stretch towards Badami from Lingusur was the worst. Through out Karnataka stretch, there were many speed breakers without marking, many huge craters - one is advised to drive slow even if a stretch looks empty and neat. Also there are many small towns and villages.
Also I went from Badami-Pattadakal-Aihole-Badami : One of the worst stretches of roads I faced on this route. At some places there is practically no road.
Badami caves are within the city so no problem.

Timing: Left 7AM from Hyderabad (near Tankbund) and reached Badami around 5PM after Breakfast, Lunch and tea and nature-call stops. It was a leisurely drive - not exceeding 90kmph.

Food: Had lunch at Raichur at Swati restaurant - it is a vegetarian restaurant and was good.

Stay: At BAdami I stayed at Hotel Mayura Chalukya, run by Karnataka tourism Dept. Room was just about average but the premises was excellent - nice lawns, spacious layout and some parking. I took a semi-deluxe AC room for 2 nights, costing approx 1300 per night. Room was fuctional - nothing more. The restaurant was good, but check the timings in advance.

Sightseeing: Pattadakal, Aihole and BAdami caves. Wanted to see Banashankari Temple but finally skipped.
