Almost all of them dissappeard when a fresh layer of tarmac was applied 18 months ago. Only a few after the turn at Bellur cross remain.

14 SEP : Bangalore - Mysore (enroute to Ooty)

04.40 AM : Started from Haralur road. Reached NICE road, Hosur toll in 15 mins, contrary to regular weekend there was no queue at toll booth.

Took Kanakapura road exit. Road widening till Kanakapura seems to be at a standstill, on top of that lots of unmarked speed breakers makes things tough. Due to this, it took around 10 mins more to reach Kanakapura. However, past that though there is road widening work ongoing at few locations, its overall better and you can maintain good pace.

Took Mallavalli to reach ring road and turn left towards Nanjangaud / Ooty highway.

Mysore ring road is in bad condition at multiple locations. If you are not careful, you may end up damaging your tyre. At most places, left lane is in good condition though.


Reach Ooty road junction by 07.00 AM.

Knowing Suhas he is probably referring to the Mysore Ring Road's junction with the Ooty Road (NH 766) just outside Mysore city.

Dear All,

I’m planning for a Dussehra trip to Mysore with family. Tentative plan is to leave Bangalore on Sunday morning and return from Mysore on Wednesday.

Needed inputs on:

(a) what all can we do in these two days. As we are travelling with our 5 yr old son, we plan to avoid super crowded events like Dussehra procession. Chamundi temple visit is planned on Sunday evening.
(b) How would be the traffic situation? We plan to driver around the town in Duster
(c) How would be overall parking situation? Should we drop the car at hotel and use local cab?
(d) If we plan to start from Mysore on Wednesday around 10.00 AM, are we likely to encounter notorious highway traffic?

If you are leaving on Sunday, try to leave by 5AM, any later than that the traffic will be very bad.

Most places will be very crowded in and around Mysore, so no escaping that. You can visit the Venugopal swamy temple near KRS backwaters. It is a huge space and very scenic with a view of KRS dam and backwaters.
Visit Shukavana, a great place for Kids with lot of parrots, macaws and other species of birds, again parking is free and spacious.
Try to get a hold of Gold pass which will give you better access to events with parking facility as well.

Traffic will be heavy, but will be regulated and limited to certain pockets of Mysore. No need to worry on that.

Parking near main events are well marked and spacious, should not be a concern.

You will not encounter much traffic on the highways Wednesday morning, but you will face traffic in all major towns you will pass through.

Took the Kanakapura route from Mysore, yesterday. It was a bliss till Kanakapura. Open roads, less traffic and nice tarmac. After crossing Kanakapura, the traffic was heavy and there are diversions due to road widening/4L work. Also, once we get closer to NICE road, the road becomes narrow due to Metro work.

Overall, considering the Sunday traffic (started from Mysore @ 4:00PM), I will prefer this route than the 4L stretch via Mandya.

I would also suggest the Malavalli-Bannur route as an alternate option.

We decided to drive to Mysore yesterday for the weekend and I dreaded the thought of driving on Bangalore Mysore highway and looked up this thread and saw your post. I liked the idea of taking the Mangalore highway and took this route. What a wonderful option this is! It was smooth sailing all along. Barring 200 meters or so near Srirangpatna, the roads are absolutely brilliant with very less traffic all along.

After joining Mysore highway at Srirangpatna I got a taste what it would have been if I had driven on this road all the way. Very high density of traffic with cars racing each other and darting left and right pushing each other off the road trying to overtake lorries and buses .

Overall this is a brilliant option and THE route to take for North Bangaloreans

Most North Bangalore folks have been using this option for some time now. It helps bypass the Mysore road crowd in a big way. Neligere-Srirangapatna section used to have many-many humps. Dont know if they still exist or have been dealt with.

However, this becomes an even better option today, considering that the road has become wide and the tarmac has gotten smoother. Allows a lot of safe room for overtaking which wasn't the case earlier due to width and frequent speed-breakers.

Despite of the stretch only 65km long, it would hardly take an hour on consistent basis. Might take 5-10 minutes lesser now. Pandavapura ROB is also fully complete at least more than 3 years before. The only grouse - Sugarcane season and the tractors and trucks will continue to use this road but thankfully wider road means you need not really tail them for long.

All in all, a fresh update is always welcome like this one .

Facilities?? none but aplenty before and after this stretch. Hence, not a big issue even if nothing comes up in future (nothing really will). It is just an hour that one needs to manage.

A new layer of tarmac along with proper widening to NH standards with shoulders means the humps have vanished, by the virtue of this very act of expansion. This was the case in July and so did ProcRJ respond too:

Sorry read that update, but I guess it did not register with me. Even I love that road. But have not been on that one for a long time. Need to try out. Lots of places to visit on that part of geography too!

I had taken this route twice in August and september. The stretch after Pandavapura upto a couple of kms before the point where it joins the NH 75 is bliss now. Wide roads, no humps, sparse traffic and almost no crowded town to cross.
any option to bypass the bellur cross toll immediately after entering NH75? if yes, that would be the icing on the cake
