Late start + Mysore Road on a Saturday may not a great idea
If you can start by 5am, it may be worth it.

At 7:30am city traffic may not be so high but also depends from where you start ?

Why not take Kanakapura-Malavalli-Bannur-Mysore bypass-Gundlupet ?

Supreme Court asked Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu from October 1 to October 6.

Will this have any impact of Bangalore - Mysore road tomorrow morning?

Traffic shouldn't be an issue at 7:30am in Mysore

If you take Bannur route, take the Ring Road (turn left where Bannur road meets Ring Road) and you will reach Nanjangud Road just beyond the Kamat Madhavan & Palace, so just turn left where Ring road meets Nanjangud road and you're all set to head towards Nanjangud.

If you go via Mysore Road, go straight at Ring Road/Columbia Asia junction, via the bus stand, Hardinge circle, Mysore Palace and you're on Nanjangud Road.

There shouldnt be any problem if you leave at 5am. Try not to stop anywhere; stop in Mysore for breakfast.

Everyone in Mysore / along Blore-Mysore highway are tired of closing their shops and losing business over bundhs. They want to put it all behind and earn decent money for dasara season. There won't be any problem, atleast till dasara is over.

Tomorrow I am also looking for 5 AM start from Bangalore(Bellandur) to Guruvayur via Mysore, Calicut bypass.
Little confused about to go via Mandya or Kanakapura-Bannur-Mysore Ring Road, would like to take Mandya if no issues.
How about you?

Just reached Mysore via Kanakapura. Started from Bellandur at 5.30, it was pleasant drive with very less traffic.

Drove via Mandya yesterday. Started at 4:40 AM from Whitefield and reached Mysore at 7:00 AM. Traffic was less. Also almost all speed breakers are gone. Did not find a single policeman on the entire stretch.

Drove via Kanakapura , absolute bliss to drive on this route. Took a break to enjoy some sugar cane juice instead of the usual Indradanush fare. Return back today late evening on the same route.

Re: Driving between Bangalore and Mysore

I'm wondering why everyone is describing Mysore Road (SH-17) as notorious, bad etc. I started following this thread very recently and couldn't get the context.

I drove through Mysore Road 5-6 times so far and found it to be okay. Is it because of the need for frequent overtakes? Probably my experiences were not during peak hours or I'm so much used to the very frustrating Bangalore traffic that anything else seems good.

I travelled via Kanakpura road between Bangalore-Mysore twice last month and it seems to be in good condition except for a few small stretches. Bangalore - Kanakpura section is horrible in terms of traffic, whereas traffic is very less between Kanakpura and Mysore. But this NH is a 2 lane road without any divider. So, we have to be careful about avoiding head-on collisions unlike Mysore road. Anyway, this is far better than 2 lane highways in Kerala where we have high traffic.

I'm planning to travel to Kerala and will be starting around 1pm from Bangalore on Oct 29th, Friday. Will it be easier to maintain higher speed in Mysore road than Kanakpura road?(I generally try to maintain speed between 80-100. Not much more than that). Do you guys think that it's a bad idea to take Mysore road?

Yes, this is the key point. Peak times are typically mornings of the start of long weekends (or any weekend) and the evenings of the end of the weekend. During most other times, it is manageable from the traffic point of view. Also, earlier the road used to have tons of humps-official and unofficial which made it a bad drive. Now most of those are also gone.

Try taking Mysore road at 6-7am on 30th-Saturday morning. Your opinion may change.

Friday 1PM, it should be ok to take Mysore Road. Kanakpura Road will also have a good amount of traffic at this time.
