Any reasons for night travel ? If you start by 3:30/4 AM You can be easily make it to Chidambaram by ~10. And I suggest route-2 via Salem/Attur.
Thanks Waxeloquent, shankar, ampere -
I am planning to start at 5- 6 pm in the evening and planning to reach there before 12 am, the reason for not starting early is again because with kid it will be difficult to start early morning and iI might end up reaching late then I might miss the puthur lunch stupid:.
I will stick to the toll way for the journey, i will update the route details post the trip, thanks everyone once again for your inputs.

Another point to note:
- At V-Koot road, there is a SH which directly would take you to Vridhachalam cutting through GST at Veppur. Since you travel at night I would say "DO NOT" take it. Just continue on the toll-road all the way to Ulundur pet and take the bypass. Now there are two ways to Vridhachalam SH as you can see on google maps.
1. SH69 from Ulundurpet. To get this highway, I dont think you can take the 4-lane on the bypass and latch on this. You need to get into Ulunderpet town to get to this.
(Route Link)
2. The second option is to continue on the 4-lane towards Trichy and take an exit further up and then drive on this SH.
(Route Link)
Though the second seems easier, you need to be alert at night to spot the exit on NH45. So I would say its better to get into Ulundurpet town and there latch on to the SH. It would also be good to carry a GPS device (Google, Garmin, MMI etc. At night you may not get enough help on the road).
Thanks Ampere once again, Yup I will carry my Samsung tab along with me and I will pin the below route details.
I wonder how do you remember all these route details to this level clap:, Any how it would be great help for us.

Thanks @soarer. I think the idea is to remember the high level details. For lower levels we have Google! Isn't it ? :)

Looking for an update on the road conditions to Chidambaram.
Which route:
a. Krishnagiri - Harur - Kallakuruchi
or b. Krishnagiri - Salem - Kallakuruchi
is recommended ?
Thanks

Bangalore-Salem-Attur-Ulundurpet-Virudhachalam-Seithiyarthope-Chidambaram
Thats the best route. Four lane till Ulundurpet.
Though off-topic, the destination is around the vicinity, hence asking here:
From Coimbatore to Nangur(near Sirkazhi/Chidambaram), which is the suggested route:
a) Coimbatore-Trichy(bypass)-Tanjore-Kumbakonam-Nangur
b) Coimbatore-Salem-Vridachalam-Jayankondam-Nangur.
Route (a) is ~400 km and (b) is ~360 km, but the road conditions do matter.

Will prefer the Salem route. Much more cleaner and has more 4-lane. But no Jayamkondam.
Ulundurper-Virudhachalam-Sethiyarthope-Chidambaram-Sirkazhi.
Team
Pls confirm the preset road condition between Bangalore to Chidambaram. Bangalore-Salem-Attur-Ulundurpet-Virudhachalam-Seithiyarthope-Chidambaram is in good shap ?

As per recent reports, the stretch between Koot Road (NH 68 & NH 532 Jn) to Chidambaram is in bad to very bad condition, especially the virudachalam to Sethiathope in very bad conditon. Seems other options are also in bad condition.
Refer to this
post for more details.

Yes thats the best option. Chidambaram to Vridhachalam bypass is a bit rough / uneven as per what I heard last. But beyond its brilliant all the way till Thalaivasal (via Veppur where you go below the Chennai-Trichy NH45/GST).

Between Chidambaram to Salem not much. THere is Ramas Cafe which is decent. But if you need a good hotel you have to come all the way till Salem.
Thanks for the info..
Can we cover this Chidambaram-Bangalore in atleast 7hrs with at least couple of breaks in between? Has anyone recently taken this route?
Also, let me know your suggestions for a good hotel in Chidambaram

You can make it to Vridhachalam bypass in 5 hours of drive time. Beyond that would delay you because of road condition. Overall 7 hours of drive time looks reasonable to me.

Not many options. You can look at Vandayar Hotel or Grand Park or Natraja Residency.
