If you are driving towards Gundlupet, then as soon as you cross gudalur town and as you near the forest CP,you would find plenty of restaurants on either side,i dont think you would want to go near their washrooms though(if they ever have one). These are the porotta joint kind of restaurants.Food's good though.

Hi Ranjit,

Saw your message now only after return .

We had a pleasant drive. Below are the updates related to accomodation and restaurants.

1) Saravana Bhavan, Angamaly - Lavish parking space, Meals just average but Dosa was good. Economic. Didn't tried washrooms as the overall hygiene was ok and not so great.

2) ICH, Gudalur - Parking space is limited as its just in Ooty road. Tried Dosa and coffee which was good. Economic. Overall hygiene was ok. Didn't tried washrooms as the overall hygiene was ok and not so great.

3) Hotel Tamil Nadu, Theppakkadu - Didn't try restaurant as it was just a night stay for us. 4 bed cottage was INR 1400 + taxes. No luxury though but decent. Very accessible still amidst the wild. We were surrounded by Chitals, Sambars, Langurs, Wild boars and a Guar! Worth the penny.

4) Hotel Paragon, Calicut - Its a must go! Never had such good Mutton Biriyani in my life. Affordable, meal for three ranges INR 500-800. Good hygiene levels and ambiance. They have designated parking though amidst of the busy city.

6) Hotel Jinan, Calicut - Its just a fast food joint for evenings and not a place to freshen up. Economic. Their special is Quail fry & Fish pollichathu.

7) Ariyaas, Trissur - Economic & overall hygienic. Good Dosas.

Check out campfire nights near masinagudi if you are keen on spending your weekend in total solitude and wild. Not for the weak hearted though
