We bought an Ecosport AT in October and have run just under 5000km till now, and are very happy with the convenience and performance. Effeciency was initially about 8 km/l but has now picked up to 11 km/l in city. Highway efficiency is 13 in D, but up shifting to 6th using s once you are above 70 keeps RPM low, and effeciency shoots up to 16.

xCent AT should be good. Do you check it?

xCent AT all the way. Loaded to the gill with kit. If you can live with the way it looks, go for it.

The Zest Diesel AMT might be the other option. Not sure about the long-term reliability though. Very few ownership reviews around.

Hi,
I am a orthopedic surgeon from Chennai looking to buy my first automatic car. I presently own a 2009 Petrol Fiat Linea emotion pack, a 2012 Swift Zdi. I have 3 other cars in my household, A alto 800 vxi (wife's), Dads XUV 500 and A Verna petrol (which has been traded off now for Xcent automatic due for delivery) which i drive alternatingly. I am a freelancer and i require a sedan with fairly bigger boot for my orthopaedic instruments which would be constantly in car, which i take to hospitals and drop my instruments for surgery and reload it once it is finished. I plan to use this car for commuting to my hospital and come back home mostly. For fun trips inside city i always take my swift to roam around as it is peppy. I might also take this car very occasionally for long trips if my dads XUV is not available or if my swift cannot accommodate more or if i have no other option. I plan to get a automatic as it as become a pain to drive cars in my congested suburbs through bylines especially if the car has a huge turning radius like linea. Linea has been my workhorse and has served me 67k Kms ( when i bought Linea i had only 2 cars at home) but this new car would not be doing so many miles per month since i alternate cars according to the situation and needs now. i would mainly take out the car for work and during surgery inside city.

So i am strictly looking at a Petrol automatic sedan with big boot that is not a pain to drive mainly in city. Safety is my priority and Bluetooth telephony is a dire necessity for me. I am looking for a car in Price range: 10- 13 lakhs which can cover 500 - 800 km /month predominantly self driven. I intend to keep the car for 5 years max and i would like to sell the car at a average resale after that.

I am also looking for a fuss free ownership as i don't have time to take the car each time to after sales ( i have had a terrible time with TATA when i got my Linea). I would like a car with a good ground clearance when boot is fully loaded as my surgical instruments are heavy too. I am looking for a top end model with bells and whistles too since i spend 13 Lakh i want to get maximum benefits for the price

Options looking at are
1. Verna VVT S(o)
2. City ivtech Vx
3. Vento 1.2 Tsi Highline
4. Rapid 1.6 AT Elegance +
5. Sunny CVT

The Rapid is the best driving car out of all five.
Vento is essentially the same car, but it has been tuned to give the highest mileage possible, and that makes it a bit more sluggish.

If looks, features and resale value are the priority, go for the Honda City. You can also consider the top end Ciaz.

No it is not, he is not talking about Diesel DSG variant, the cars you are comparing are Rapid 1.6 MPI AT and Vento 1.2 TSI DSG. They have different engine and different gearboxes.

Yeah resale is good for city but City VX is 14 L on road. It's not even VX (o) the top end. Does it command a premium price? Is it worth the extra lakh?

Yes I forgot Ciaz zxi. But why there is no really top end fully loaded automatic car except for city?

Sorry I was talking about the diesel, and not petrol, as Anshuman pointed out.
City is a good all-round car, but it is a bit overpriced, yeah. Ciaz is probably the most VFM proposition, but it's said to be unexciting to drive.

Petrol, automatic, fuss free, big boot, good features, strong resale value - City Automatic is pretty much what suits your needs. It's not exactly VFM but it's always like - you win some you lose some!

You can check out Ciaz as well, I wouldn't say this offers a better deal for your money cause the engine is quite under powered as compared to the City. Also I am not sure what variant comes with the Automatic.

I would suggest to go for Vento 1.2 TSI Highline. It should suffice all your requirements. The engine is good and the DSG gearbox is the best in business. With 2 airbags, ABS, brake assist, and ESP, the safety aspect is also well taken care of. Buy the extended warranty and you should have your peace of mind wrt reliability. The bluetooth system works fine, except that you wont be able to sync your phonebook on the system.:deadhorse

But beyond all this, the engine and gearbox combo is so good that all who own it swear that the car puts a smile on their face every time they drive it. :)

From the above list, the Vento TSI looks to be the best option.

If the rear seat of the car isn't going to be used all that much, why not consider a hatchback. The VW GT TSI is one that comes to mind. The most advanced automatic available. Well equipped, easy to drive, entertaining when you want it to be, highest level of active safety equipment and hatchback benefits means easy parking. Flip the rear seat and you can pack in more medical equipment or luggage than a sedan. The hatch gives you the benefit of a tall loading bay too.

Vento TSI all the way, if you are fixated ONLY on a sedan. Coming from a Linea, the typical Jap build quality will be an outright disappointment. As you know that safety of a car does not only depend on airbags, ABS, TCS et all. The most important is a well designed, well built and tough body shell. There are active threads running on this. For example, adding airbags won't make a Datsun GO(existing one) a safe car. According to me, the City is a Jack of all trades but master of none. It's USP in the Indian market are Honda badging and reliabilty, rear seat comfort, and goodies. On the safety aspect, we can safely conclude(no pun intended) that the Germans have got it right. So, my suggestion would be to go for the Vento TSI. Beautiful engine+DSG combo, evergreen looks, superbly built and good to drive.

I cannot go for a hatchback as I keep my instruments and sterilised with formalin ( formaldehyde ) tablets which gives a pungent smell and induces tears irritating the eyes. So i definitely need a separate air tight compartment separate from the cabin. So a boot is a must. Not just because rear seat isn't used much. That's why I didn't even prefer a mini SUV too.
