On a budget for a used car

My fellow BHP'ians,

What are some vital factors that one ought to consider, when shopping around for a used car?
I am not interested in hatchbacks and since my driving isn't going to be much, a petrol vehicle is what I am looking for.
I was wondering what my choices might be, with a budget in the vicinity of 3-3.5L
I was thinking perhaps, Hyundai Accent or a Honda City?

Also, would some of you from Mumbai, be aware of credible used car dealers?

Hey luv, here we meet again . I think you should go i for a Honda City.
Forget esteem/ accent. Avoid majority of the dealers in your area.
Theres nothing like buying vehicles from the owner directly.

grafficars: 9820088529, i doubt he has a bad car ever, slightly expensive but kinda worth it.
jmd cars, call 28888888 for their number.
another reputed dealer, fazulbhoys at prabhadevi. no first hand experience with him though.

Thanks for those contacts, manson!
Have you had a personal experience with any of the above mentioned dealers?
Since we're all aware of credibility issues with different businesses, especially with used car dealers (tampering with odometer readings, falsifying documents,...just to mention a few), who would you go with?

Also, feel free to throw in a few more names that have good standing; in this way, I can go shopping around for the best deal.

i know the grafficars owner since almost eight years now, till date i havent seen a bad example of any car lying with him. has been doing only upmarket cars since a few years now besides a few which belong to his old clients. can vouch for almost every car in his stock.
apart from the above, i have purchased my ohc from him almost a year back and the experience has been nothing short of great.
jmd and grafficars to a certain extent work togther in terms of used cars, and i have purchased a brand new scorpio from grafficars via jmd. most cars that i have seen at jmd (which belnong in their stock, not from agents) have been pretty much clean et all.
fazulbhoys have heard good things about, but no first hand experience.
most used car dealers along andheri, chembur etc are a waste.
