I doubt that it is only the premium which creates the huge price difference. I am not sure by how much but the duties for vehicles longer than 4 mtrs. are substantially high and that could be increasing the cost too.
Yes, Manufacturer's will be adding that extra margin in Sedans based on the market response. But the difference in prices is not entirely premium being charged by Manufacturers. |
True. I agree regarding the tax.
But as an end customer, are they getting any benefits other than the added boot space and the sedan image factor? Is that worth the extra 3-4L spent, as compared to 30k-100k in case of compact sedans? Typical examples as I mentioned above.
No customer would pride himself on the tax component anyways. :D

Voted for Ford Figo aspire as it is the complete all-round package in this segment. It has good safety features, powerful and refined diesel, a good commuter petrol and a DCT automatic. Only let down is that it has an inferior build compared to the previous ford Figo and the classic. Hope 200cr marketing campaign brings good numbers for ford in the upcoming months. |
I own a previous gen Figo and I really don't understand the comments like inferior build compared to the previous Figo. I never really thought the Figo is better built than my other cars like the Etios and Ritz. I think the Ritz is my best built car. Not a squeak vs many squeaks and rattles on the Figo. So if the new Figo is even worse than the old Figo that it surely won't age well at all and I did sit an Aspire cab recently and it was rattling like a 5 year old car in about 6 months of it getting delivered from a showroom.
I don't have anything against compact sedans as a class, but certain compact sedans do come across as worse than equivalent premium hatchbacks, or just bad in general. The Dzire for example, makes no sense to me. A slightly bigger hatch like the Baleno is better in every aspect. The Xcent though, gets a much larger boot and a very pleasing design. Like wise, the Zest is better looking as well as more comfortable, spacious and better equipped than the Bolt. I'm glad that the Baleno is outselling the Dzire.

Well actually not. It's the Dzire that is outselling Baleno, month after month. In fact more than by 100% if we see the last two months figures.

Not when you also consider the bookings in hand that are yet to be delivered.
Voted for the Aspire.
If I were to buy from this segment below would be my choices.
Petrol MT - Aspire/Amaze
Petrol AT - Aspire
Diesel MT - Aspire
Diesel AT - Zest
