Hi All,

I have decided to buy Optra 1.6 Elite (from Gurgaon) and am getting total discount of 72k. I have some specific queries on which I need advice:
  1. Is the discount that I am getting good enough? There is still some scope of negotoating as I have not negotiated hard with the dealer.
  2. I haven't decided about the color. Blazing red looks good but I want to know if there is any downside of getting a red color (maintenance wise)
  3. Should I go for alloys at the time of purchase? I am not sure about the benifits of having alloy wheels (other than the fact that they look good). If it is just the looks, then I will go for it later.
  4. Teflon coating and anti rust is required? Does these things really help or are these reccommended? Car will be driven mostly in Chandigarh and Delhi.
  5. Add-ons like leather seating, chrome plating of door handles, painting of side mirrors, upgrading music system, etc should be done from the dealer or outside market?
  6. At the time of delivery, what essentials should be kept in mind ( I went through a long thread where there were some issues with newly delivered Optra // don't want to end up in that position)
Thanks in advance,
Aman

hi Aman, let me try and put in my 2 bit,
1. 72k is good, but what is the final price? ie. 72k is knocked off from what price?
2. I have a 7 month old blazing red, it is cool, better than black which looks stunning but is a little more difficult to maintain.
3. Alloys are a good thing, try to get it outside (not the showroom) you will definitely get it for less.
4. I think the teflon coating, antirust and sun film etc are part of the freebies, unless the 72k discount is without any freebies, anyway it should be negotiated.
5. Ask the showroom to paint your mirrors, door handles at no extra cost, at least my dealer did it along with a discount of 80k that is 7 months ago.
As for ICE and leather, it is better to get it done in places which specialize in them and not the showroom.
6. I too had a bit of a problem while taking delivery, so what you should essentially look at is insist on seeing the car which you are going to be given before it is taken for registration, do a complete checkup regards to no. of kilometers run, bodyline, note down the engine and chassis nos. just to check later while taking delivery. also insist on getting the car deliered during the day so you can actually check everything and get any niggling problems corrected then and there.

Well that's some of the things I could think about, I suggest you ask the dealer to give you the 4or5 year extended warranty along with the cash discount. Happy driving and all the very best on your new aquisition.

Thanks Lukes... 72k discount is on 781k price tag. So, the ex-showroom will be 709k. So, one thing to negotiate will be sun films, teflon and anti-rust coating.
Thanks

Hey Aman,
I've owned a Optra for two years. Sold it just yesterday..
For the discount, it might be good taking some quotes from regent and autovikas in Delhi. And then bargain with your dealer. It does'nt matter where you pick the car from, so go where you get the maximum discount.

The darker the color, the more difficult to maintain. Go for crystal mica which is nice and light, otherwise i recomment black .. its crazy cool on the Optra.
Alloys primarily improve the asthetics of the car and also impreove handling slightly. Get an aftermarket fitment from Aura or Neo.
Anti rust is good. Teflon coating is not required. regular waxing is as good. If you buy black, you'll get it complimentary as its a non metalic color.
Mirrors ,chrome etc should be done free, but if they don't , then get it done outside.
Leather seats and music system should definitely be done outside . Showrooms rip you off and don't get great quality either ..
There is thread by SMG on pre delivery inspection .. very good ..

PM me if you have issues of any kind with the Optra. Its a great buy. Congratulations..

Infractions: 0/1 (10)

try to get antirust and teflon coating as an additional freebie apart from the discount .antirust would make more sense if you were stayin down south like bombay, pune etc since it doesnt rain here much.
try haggling even more ,give the dealer a bluff saying you have got a discount of 80k at some other dealer or something like that.
leather, ice should be done outside the showroom cos they charge too much,do not have all the brands and are not specialists in ice.you can get very good alloys from outside the showroom for lesser price.
mirrors, chrome, door handles if done free by the dealer is okay otherwise get it done from outside.
and choose a lighter colour since its easy to maintain and clean.
blazing red does look very good.rest is your choice.best of luck and congrats on your new buy.

Did some negotiation with the dealer... and here's the final offer he's giving:

80k discount over 781k + teflon coating + body paint for door handles and side mirrors. He didn't agree for anything else. I plan to get chrome handles from outside but am not sure if I should go for alloys or not.

One thing about the leather upholstery, dealer said he has Puma and one more brand (costing around 20-25k). Is this good price or too costly?

i found that the optra is coming with good schemes, why dont you look at the upgrade models especially the royale which has everything oe fitted and work on the same, else you have got a good discount.
